PLEASE, someone tell me what the stock speaker sizes are- what models etc.
I have a 6 speaker- I guess. 2 tweeters, 2 doors, 2 backs. I have a VERT, so my rear panels are different from coupe even (I believe). What are my stock speaker sizes- 8 inch speakers? With an adapter? 6.5 with no adapter? Please don't make guesses- just "The speakers I pulled out measured like this, and I replaced them with" I don't want to hear confusing guesses- with all this strange numbers like the last thread. Also mention what model car you have, and how many speakers you had. Looking for vert information especially! I created a new topic because I felt it needed a clean break from the old topics- where answers were anywhere from 6.5 --> 8 inch. |

I'd say your best bet is to take off your panels and find out yourself. There is lots and lots of variation, so that's probably going to be the best way.

The door panels are easy to take off, all you need is a philips screwdriver and a flat hea screwdriver. If you are unconfortable, check out a Chilton's manual for pictures.

Your door panel is an 8 inch opening with a 6.5" speaker on a adapter plate. This is why people can put 8" or 6.5" speakers in the opening. Stock is 6.5. I dont know about the rears in a vert. I'd assume 6x9's but you dont want me to guess. Its real easy to find out though. If its an oval - they're 6x9's... if a circle then measure. Tweeters - well any size fits. Most aftermarkets are 1 inchers.
My car is a '97 GT Hatch with 6 speakers (i really didnt' know that the celica ever came with 8 - i've never seen it nor do I know where the extra two are) But if your making a aftermarket set up - make it an 8 with included subs. Celi's gotta bounce. |

I've been in there numerous times. The front is an 8" mount. If you want 6.5 or 6.75 you need to fabricate a mount(stereo shops will do it for $20 or less normally). You can order 8" 3 ways, put in 8" subs, or just get the 'rings' made and use 6.5 or 6.75 components or 3/4 ways. I have no clue about the vert rear, but the hatch is a 6.75". End of story. |

They are 6.5 all the way around... the front is a 6.5 with a molding around it to make it a total of 8 so you can actually put an 8 in the there... The rears are also 6.5 the bracket is just shaped a little weird so you will have to do a little custom work on either the bracket or the rim around the speaker... not a big deal really you will see what im talking about when you take the panels off... i recently put all mb quart in my car and amped them up thats how i know...

This is what he was talking about. The mounting location for the front speaker is 8". Anyone who says differently doesn't know what they are talking about. In order to fit any other size speaker, special 'trim rings' will need to be made to adapt a smaller speaker to the 8" mount. It is NOT a 6.5" with a funny molding. The stock speaker is a 6.5" with a ring built in to make it fit the 8" hole. |

Ok, so if I buy a 6.5 speaker, can I use the old ring? or is it attached to that speaker? Will modification be needed to fit an 8 inch?
