I have a question. I talked to a mechanic about lowering my car, and he told me that if I put springs on it I should also replace shocks, struts, ect. I'm kinda on a tight budget and I'm not looking for a racecar type ride, just a daily-mean-lookin driver. Do I need to go all out on the suspension for this? Or can I just put on some Sportlines and be done with it?

The mechanic is right.
It is advisable to change the shocks/struts at the same time. If you don't do it now then you'll regret it later. If you're on a tight budget then a reasonable deal would be KYB GR2's with Eibach Sportlines. (Look for deals on eBay or perhaps try tirerack.com out). |

DONT BE CHEAP!!! thats what i did and now i have the bounciest ride in the world. plus it is cheaper to buy everything at once and have it installed together instead of separate times because labor will be the same(somewhere around 180$)

Ya it can get expensive to install springs, and normally stock struts wont hold up to lowering springs, so just do it all at once, because installation will be the same if you have struts put in while they are doing the springs.

i just did the springs on mine, but my car only has around 50,000miles on it.

i would say spend the 400 on the sportlines an kyb-gr2's and install them yourself, or find someone to help... save alot of money that way, an get what ya want.. there really not that hard.

Thanks so much for the info. I'll probably just spend the extra cash and go for it. I'd rather spend it now than spend even more down the road when my suspension goes out from doing an incomplete job.
I've got one more question... it's kinda dumb, but what exact parts would I need to fully do my suspension? I just need kind of a basic education on suspension upgrades for our Celi's Thanks, Ryan -------------------- |

This should cover it:
- Struts/Shocks (KYB GR2's or Koni Yellows) - Springs (Eibach, ....) - Front and Rear Sway bars (Suspension Techniques) - Front and Rear Strut bars As for prices, I would look around, try ebay or www.tirerack.com for starters. This post has been edited by 3TST: Apr 27, 2004 - 2:46 PM |

If you're really that tight on a budget... you don't have to change your struts now. You can always do it later. It's up to you... |

Changing the struts/shocks does depend upon how many miles you've done on them. If you're coming up to the 100,000 mark, I would change them.
Kuya - You changed just the springs in 95 on a 94 model. How many miles had you done before the change? |

I bought a coil-over kit, and i aint got the money now for struts, so Im slaming it now, and my struts got alot of miles on them! Im tired of my ride being too high.
I do plan on buying new struts next month and Im doing the work myself to save big bucks. So if I got to take it apart again, oh well. If your going to do your own work, put the springs on and when you get the money buy the struts. working on your vehicle is half the fun. |

Ok, I'm tired of people saying how they have coilovers. A REAL coilover is a spring and shock all in one. It's totally different then a spring/shock setup. You have adjustable springs. Just cuz adjustable springs and coilovers both allowe u to jack with ride height, does not mean they are one and the same. The is a world of difference in handling and performence and cost when it comes to coilovers vs ricer-overs(adjustable springs) -------------------- NASA/SCCA RX-7....currently under the knife

how much are kyb gr2s? Should I replace my shocks and springs when I get my Tein S-techs? I have about 79000 miles on my 95. I was originally planning to just get springs.

Front inserts: $40 each RR Strut Housing (LH and RH): $47 each Boots: $12 each Mounts (RR only): $37 each I just ordered my Teins. I have about 102K mileage on mine and I'm replacing the shocks also. I believe total including the boots and mounts total out to $334.20. That's with shipping. Without boots and mounts will total out to $194.64 |

you would def want to replace, I paid around 200 for my kyb's... The thing is, there going to go limp on you... also you might as well do it when everything is apart, and the can get old togeather... |
