I have a 7AFE and want to put in a 3SGE in it. Will i need a whole front clip to do it to avoid buying other parts? Will I need to do all new wiring for it? New ECU? Will the engine fit right in or will I have to build new support for it? I'm thinking about trashing my 7AFE turbo and putting the 3SGE in. My Engine has high miles on it and its not worth the work to rebuild. Any help would be appreciated. Wondering if I could get a list or something of stuff to to to complete the swap, I havent really seen anybody do a 3SGE before, just a 3SGTE.

yes, a front clip is your best bet, you will want the full harness. the ecu will need to be changed and an engine mount will need to be replaced.
also consider why you want a 3sge. the cost of the clips is similar and it is about the same difficulty to swap as its turbo counterpart. I'm sure you have a lot more questions so try the search function. a lot of things have already been covered. |

hey, Im planning on doing the same thing this summer, exactly what 3s-ge are you planning, thats somthing yo might wanna find out. The beams is def not worth it. YOu will need gt motor mounts, also make sure you get the 3s-ge witht the tranny, .. The one i got has an auto tranny, witch means im going to have to get another 3s-ge man tranny or use a gt, im going to use a gt, because im working towards a budget swap, witch is not a good word to use with any swap. I didnt not get a clip, its alot easier that way but just as expensive as the 3s-gte. Here is a thread that i posted a lil ago, maybe it will give you more info. 3s-ge

If you do and want to sell your turbo setup let me know b/c I'm wanting one and I cant find some parts I'd need to turbo mine and I'd rather just buy your whole setup. |

Acutally, 3S-GTE is really a good engine, but u guys know the 2nd generation 3S-GTE has been released almost 10 years, at least we have to repair sth before swapping, but the 3S-GE engine with VVT-i is about 5 or 6 years.
In engine to engine compare, 3S-GE should be better than 2nd gen 3S-GTE. |

The beams engine would be a 97or98 plus.. It produces 197hp stock n/a.. The only reason there saying its not worth it, is because sence its a newer engine.. Its going to be a lot more expensive.. and just as much trouble as a 32-gte .. were your still going to be getting better numbers.. Personally ifI had 3-5k I would do the beams.. That would so much nicer with that much power n/a. Im doing the old skool 3s-ge..
Also yota. Go to fesible engine swaps on top of this page.. that should give you the same info.. or better. This post has been edited by Digndoug: Jul 19, 2004 - 11:43 AM |

Just like coomer said in fesible engine swaps.. Theres not reason to turbo it.. if you want a turbo do the 3s-gte witch is made for it. The beams is not built for it, yeah you could do it, and prolly get another 40hp out of it, but its just gunna be the same as the 3s-gte and cost alot more.. and not be properly made for a turbo. So, if you want turbo 3s-gte if you want a bad ass n/a.. witch imh its more respectable.. do a beams.. or even just a standard 3s-ge. |

Turbo'ing a vvti engine is horrible compared to turbo'ing one without it. If you're planning on a turbo just do the 3s.
In Response: Didn't say it was bad, just not as good. How much boost is your friend running? Did he upgrade any internals? With a CR of 10.0:1 on the 1zz I would think that you couldn't boost very high without upgrading some stuff. l l \/ This post has been edited by Doge: Jul 19, 2004 - 10:00 PM |

the turbo wont be happy on the vvti and on the 7th gen turbo isn't happy because of high compression on both motors but esspecially the gts.

Yeah the 2zz has an 11.5:1 CR...thats insanely high, but also insanely efficient looking at it from an N/A point of view.

Hello,
I am new to Celica technology. Search button in this forum gives so many replies, that i cant filter out anything useful from it, so i think it is easier to ask directly my question. I am planning to buy a Celica 1994, which has blown 7A-FE and owner gives me additional 3S-GE with harness an 2 geaboxes from Celica 1987. Does the swap look like this: 1. Engine harness replacement. Are ECU wires easily separated from whole electrical harness? 2. Engine mounts must be modified/bought new. Are the engine mount locations almost identical? 3. Gear shift linkage system dircet bolt on? 4. Does 7A-FE drive axles have appropriate length and number of teeth on them to fit in 3S-GE transmission? 5. Is 6. gen 7AFE fuel pump suitable for 3SGE ? Thank You in Advance Henrik |

Thank You in Advance Henrik thanks for using the search button. 1) no there is not a seperate electrical haraness for the engine. The engine haraness is integrated with the body haraness on the celica 2) No the 7AFE does not share any common engine mounts with the 3sge engine. You will need to use gt4 motor mounts or the gt motor mounts. please search for more information 3) gear shift link will vary depending on the transmission. since they made so many 1987 celica models that range from the 1987 gts gt4 st. I cant give you an answer. 4) no the 7afe transmission axels will not work. 5) 7afe fuel pump might* work. the general rule of thumb is: If your going to change the motor, you might as well change out the tire old fuel pump. If and since your going from a 1.8 liter engine to a 2.0 liter engine, the fuel pump might fail during the upper rpms. |

before we say that a vvt-i 3sgte is a bad idea, can anyone give any proven reasons why?? im pretty sure that there is a 3sgte with vvti anyways, therefore making anybodies plan of turboing a beams 3sge kinda unesesscary. And sorta like the vvl on the sr20, it actually helps more than anything else....anywho, a beams swap will be 2k or higher, 3rd gen, which is alittle less in power than the redtop beams, can go for 500-1200....btw, hanyo actually has the rest of how the swap should go for you..peace
blacktop beams: 200-220hp redtop beams : 180-200hp 3rd gen 3sge: 160-185hp, depending on where its from 2nd gen 3sge: 140-175hp, also depending on where you get it from 1st gen 3sge, not worth putting in your car... about 100-140hp.... QUOTE(Culpable04 @ Apr 29, 2007 - 1:48 PM) is the 3SGE from 1987 as well ? The 3SGE and its harness is from 1987. I know only that the engine has 2000cc volume and 110kW. I cant recall, but i think, that i get the 3S-GE transmission axles also with deal. Can these axles be used? This post has been edited by eintsius: Apr 29, 2007 - 11:12 AM |
