Well I was thinking about going the supra or rx7 route for my next car but I came to the conclusion that I want more of an everyday car BUT it would have to be swapped for sure, I got a taste of speed with my mr2t and wont settle for anything less.
So anyways I was just looking around at engines and clips to get an idea of what I can expect and saw this on venus auto. They are asking 1500+ shipping, is that pretty cheap or average? They also have 2 2t215 clips in stock! ![]() This post has been edited by Uppitycracker: May 22, 2004 - 4:07 PM |

i think they screwed some people up w/ clips promising uncut harness but were later cut, or sending out the wrong clip, etc.. or was that jarco? one of the well known importers of clips has some serious customer service issues, if i remember correctly, but i could've swore it was venus auto.

I've had nothing but pleasant deals with Venus... however, I'm local. Their clips are cheap... but mind you... you get what you pay for. Their customer service isn't the greatest... but they're nice people to deal with, if you know what you're looking for and what you're asking. Their clips are sometimes missing stuff... but they don't cut their clips themselves... so that happens. Various little plugs and stuff sometime turn up missing... but if you ask... they'll most likely try to find you (from their shop) working stuff for free. Remember, I was local... so I basically ran free aroudn their shop. Overall... between 0 and 10... I'd give them an 8.5 or so. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Ya I checked the sticky's, thats where I got the link for venus auto. And thats about all the info there was. Theres no definative source for information involving a swap with a clip. Some people say everything is there, others say theres still lots to get. I might just say **** a celica if its gonna be a huge pain in the ass, maybe Ill just get another mr2t. |

Why can't you use a ST215 clip?... If you got the money you can do anything, but its just going to be more difficult than the ST205 or the ST185.
ST215 would rule and be even more rarer than the swaps most ppl have..hehe But its up to you. |

Oh Im going st185, its good enough for me. I was just pointing out that they had 2 clips at venus right now. I guess the computer and/or electrical system is different and I think Kwanza pointed out that parts are hard enough to find for the st205 let alone the st215. All the parts are available here for the 2nd gen which is sweet. This post has been edited by Uppitycracker: May 22, 2004 - 8:55 PM |

well you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get. most of these venus clips dont include any body parts and are sometimes missing the gauge cluster.
most st185 clips go for $1500-2200 i payed $1800. it has the gauge cluser, so i have proof of milage, comes with the hood, that i can sell to make some money back, and comes will the full awd drivetrain, if i ever would feel tempted to try awd. so its a great deal for all the stuff thats included. you also cant forget about shipping charges. with the rising cost of fuel, its getting more and more expensive to ship a clip. my shipping from washington (west coast) to philadelphia (east) will be around 800$. i think a good guess would be to say that you can get a full clip with shipping for around 2.500. its really a great deal, if you think of how much most turbo kits or superchargers sell for. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Yeah...I was just pointing out that ST215's are not totally impossible. Mostly every part you need would have to come from a parts store of Japan Toyota, but with the money you can do it..thought of trying it, projected cost was too high, which is why I went ST185 route too.
Honestly, Venus is shady when you talk with them about their clips, but they may accidently give you something rare as a WRC...hehe ![]() I ended up with toysport, because of the shadiness of Venus and didn't really know what I was getting since I couldn't check it out. Toysport is worse than Venus, more shady, fat guys always eating, and overpriced. But for toysport, I visited their shop everyweek to make sure I got everything right...they even helped with the swap. Go with Venus if you like something they have, but I know in ontario there are a lot of Import Junkyards which is what you are better off with. I am reccomending something more close by you so your shipping costs are lower or w/ pick up and the possibility to visit the place if something goes wrong. Hope my 2cents would help you in looking for a clip. |

Right on guys thanks, So with your clips did you guys have all the mechanical parts needed for the swap? was there anything else you had to get? Do you still need to have the wiring harness done?

the clip gives you just about everthing, but as youll find out, there are many little parts that you will need/want.
you will want to replace timing belt, tensioner, and all the other betls. doing the water pump is a good idea too. new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. walbro 255 hight pressure fuel pump for the NA supra. clutch, throwout bearing and alignment tool for the 5sfe, with a pressure plate for the 3sgte. intercooler, piping and blow off. you will probably want some boost gagues and a pillar. tools, lots of jack stands, fluids, etc as for the wiring, that is a big gray area. for some reason, everyone that has done their wiring dosnt like to share info with the rest of the comunity. i highly recomend buying 2 electrical books from toyota. one for the alltrac and one for your car. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

Ya as far as the belts and what not thats a given. Im planning on doing the gt4 front end conversion before the swap, so I wont need alot of that stuff like a front mount intercooler. Boost gauges and ebc's are also stuff Id just add down the road. I figure for the cost of the front end conversin it will cancel out the cost of the fmic. Probably a bit more but worth it too me. Im not looking for ass loads of power off the bat, just someting to rival the speed of my old car. As far as wiring goes I think Id just send it off to mike. Im kinda ignorant in that subject, will I be sending the wiring harness from the clip and my celica? Are they hard to take off? |

The GT4 hood wont accomadate the TMIC of an ST185. It is only a heat VENT for the turbo and exhaust manifold. It is in no way a SCOOP to direct air over the intercooler. If you want to keep the TMIC you'll have to get the st205 W/A intercooler and all the necessary equipment like the water pump, the intercooler radiator, water reseviour, and a couple other things. If you go to alltrac.net they sell the complete kit somtimes...they go fast though so you have to catch them quick. Otherwise you'll just have to get a FMIC.

i bought my clip from Venus. They are cool people. I paid 1500 even, because i drove up to sacramento to pick up the clip. I basicly made a road trip out of it.
As for my clip, it was in great conditions. Cluster was intact, so i knew how many miles where on it. The entire body was intact. Nothing missing from the engine. And as an added bonus, the ECU in that clip had been hacked into by TRD. What they did exactly, i'm not sure, cause i have'nt opened it up to check or test it. But one thing i DO know is that I dont have fuel cut off and i've ran this motor at 150 MPH already. Hasn't given me a single problem. If rating 1-10, i give Venus a 9. |

This is not true. The stock TMIC from a st185 will be fine with the GT4 hood. It will even work with a stock hood. NO PROBLEMS. Before I upgraded to a FMIC, i was running the st185 intercooler with my stock hood. |

How much are you planning to boost with a heat soaked intercooler?
Not having a scoop or some way of directing air over the intercooler completely defeats the purpose of having one... This post has been edited by Doge: Jun 4, 2004 - 4:43 PM |
