I was curious- is it possible to get a gt-4 swap to pass smog testing in CA? Obviously you can pay lotsa $$$ to get one illicitly, but is it possilbe to do any mods to get one passed without doing this?
Has anyone tried legally to do it? What was the score, if so? Thanks! -------------------- psalm 69 |

I was at a small car group this weekend talking to someone about cars... his friend had passed a jdm engine in a celica, I believe off how he described it it was a JDM 3sge. He put in a half tank of gas and some sort of alcohol mixture... said the lady doing the smog test said "That most people with exhausts **** up the cars", she was impressed "this was the most perfect car she had ever tested"ill find out what mixture if this intrests you guys lol
P.s. im iun VA near DC Mind you if they notice you dont have an EGR valve, your screwed. Sooo... pray This post has been edited by slipgun: May 31, 2004 - 1:36 PM |

my friend has an 89 supra with a the jdm motor and he passed...with the exception of using the stock usdm intake manifold and egr...the jdm motor doesn't have the egr valve.

California Laws are different. It's standard procedure to check the EGR for fuctionality... and they should never miss it, assuming the shop is good. Scoob... you can just use the USDM manifolds, EGR equipment, and ecu for the BAR ref, then for the smog after the BAR gives you a legal swap sticker. Just claim the motor is from a 95 MR2 turbo. Technically speaking... the motor will pass the sniffer assuming the CAT is in good condition and the motor is in good running order... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... i'm not sure about passing in MD but i wish i lived there, u get inspection once and u never need it again unless u sell the car or somthing and no county stickers. In va u need Inspection every year, Emission every 2 years.

sure if u think he can do it, so far i've been reasearching and the swap for some reason seams to be more do able to me then ever before. Only thing u want to do is have someone do the wiring, other than that sure go for it.
