Sup guys,
I was wondering what the function was of the two holes on my rear S.T. Sway bar? Which of the two holes should I connect my links ? Does it make a diff on which hole to use ? Just wondering thanks DEF -------------------- I will return one day. |

The rear bar is adjustable. The holes you put it in determines how stiff it is. The holes on the ends of the bar are the least stiff, the ones farther in are more stiff. I have mine set to full stiff. You can also put one side stiff and one side soft to get an in-between setting.

It adjusts the handling balance of the car. A very basic guideline is: If the car oversteers, soften the rear bar. If it understeers, stiffen it.

you can adjust how "tight" the bar feels with the 2 mounting points,...i remember reading somewhere abour that..i cant remember which is which tho..sorry, man

Why would too stiff of rear sway bar cause oversteer in a FWD vehicle? My understanding of oversteer is when the rear end of the car unintentionally comes out to the side opposite of the way the car is turning and is caused by too much power to the wheels of a rear wheel drive vehicle during cornering. You are correct right up to this statementL
Understeer/oversteer are caused by a disparity in the amount of grip generated at each end of the car. POWER oversteer is "caused by too much power to the wheels of a rear wheel drive vehicle during cornering". Generally a cars handling is said to be neutral when it doesn't oversteer or understeer in steady state cornering. Steady state basically means you're going in circles and nothing is changing. You're not changing the angle on the steering wheel (its already turned) and you're just holding enough gas to keep the car going, your speed isnt changing. |

Man, i thought i knew all this stuff.. but reading all this, im getting lost.. Ok so say when i take a hard left right.. well not hard.. but long.. like a circle off the highway.. if ya understand. And as im going.. The rer starts to go to the out side.. whats that, ok and when just the front plows to the outside.. ... The thing i get... def mostly when its wet.. but when im cornering.. The front seemd to plow... Im not use to front wheel ... but what can i do to change.. Thanks

That would be called oversteer.
That is called understeer.
The best way to reduce understeer is to reduce your speed going into the corner. The same could be said for oversteer in most circumstances. Too much steering input has usually been the culprit of oversteer for me, though it is admittedly in conjuction with too much speed into the corner. But since you ask in reference to Sway Bars, SpedToe169 said earlier in this thread

thanks for the great info guys.....
ok I got my bars in, but I think I put the rear on the wrong way. does the bend in the middle go up towards the body, or down towards the ground. In the front I feel a huge difference and the back I feel nothing thanks DEF -------------------- I will return one day. |

I'll check for you as soon as I can and report back; it's raining here, otherwise I'd have just posted the info, sorry.
*edit* The bend in the center should go up underneath the vehicle. If the bar is already installed that way, try indexing the rear bar on the firmer setting and see how that works. I couldn't tell you how it shoulld feel with both bars installed, as I only got the rear to dial in a little more neutrality/oversteer depending on the situation. I don't remember my rear bar having a bed in it like that...but I could be on crack. You did put the big bar in the front and the little one in the rear right?
At the very least I'd say you have it on backwards....If it ever stops raining here I'll check mine for you. |

Ok, I took some pics of my rear bar, I hope they help. They may be a little large for dialup people, sorry.
Middle of the bar, you can see where the bend on the driver's side goes over the fuel filler lines. Passenger side of bar. The bend on that side is presumably for the stock exhaust. You can see the orientation of the bar relative to the end link as well. Driver's side. Note the bend is different than it is on the passenger side. Also, I need to go ahead and install the rear disks I have. Drums suck. I'll be aligning my car within the next few weeks and I will try to take better pics once I have the car cleaned up some and in the air if needed. |
