Driving light bulb keeps blowing out - why?, Driving Light Bulb Keeps Blowing Options

I just purchased a '94 Celica GT that came with a burnt out H3 bulb in one of the Road Boy driving lights. I ordered a new bulb and installed it but, the bulb went out and I installed a SECOND bulb and promptly went out.

Is it possible that I have a bad ground wire?
What about an electrical surge? (but then...wouldn't both driving lights be out?)

Any tips/cluses would be appreciated...as much as these PIAA bulbs cost - I don't have much more $$ for trial and error...

Hey i'm not 100% sure what PIAA bulbs are but i'm going to assume, they are like a super white Halogen bulb. In that case i have some useful info, when u are installing the bulbs are u touching them? If so, thats a BIG BIG no no. if the oil from ur hands gets on the bulb, it evidently heats the bulb even more then it already does (and they get very hot) and forces it to blow out, overheating i guess. i've had a couple of friends do this, but so ya basicially don't touch the bulb when installing it, and if u happen to touch it on accident, use rubbing achool and a paper towel to clean it off, and u will be fine, just make sure none of ur nasty hand grease gets on the bulb! .


ps. The super whites i used where from streetglow, and they have like 1 yr manufacter warrenty, so even if they blow out due to ur nasty hand grease, they will be replaced. Might wanna try em out.

Thanks for the advice. I read that little tidbit after I'd blown two $25 bulbs but thought they were just being "overly anal" in their instructions about not touching the bulbs. Guess not!

I'm going to order another pair (@$50 clams!) replace the ground wire and NOT touch the bulb during install and see what happens..
