Well, I sent her to the mechanic for the 3sgte today. I miss her already, but I have to say, I am excited. These are going to be a long few weeks.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

It sucks being without the Celica, but in the end it should be worth it. biggrin.gif

Are you bracing/reinforcing the chassis at all?

J-speed side tower connectors and a strut tower bar. I contemplated welding custom sub-frame connectors on the bottom of the car along the sides but recently found out that the subframes are completely connected already. In that way, the convertible celica is unlike convertible Mustangs and Camaros that are often strengthened with subframe connectors because of chassis or cowl flex. As of right now, I am of a mind that it will be stiff enough. There are at least two 5th gen owners on celica.net that have convertibles with the swap with no reported problems that I know of.

Jay, I'm jealous- first vert with a 3s. DG sells fender struts I believe- and I'd look into those- BTW, have you checked out our rear bracing? IMHO it doesn't look strong enough- but a PITA to replace.

As for DG's "fender struts", they are side tower braces and almost identical to the J-speed ones I ordered. Unfortunately, DG announced production of them after my order. As for the rear bracing, from the rear wheels back, the coupes and convertibles have much more ridgity compared to the hatch backs. Also, all the convertible structural modifications are behind the lock pillars. I have the diagrams from ASC regarding the structuaral modifications that were done to the car when it was chopped. The only thing that we have to worry about in my opinion is front cowl flex under torque. We will see.

Rock! Jay is leading the way. I don't know if I should try to pay off my car earlier or save up for the swap.

i know how you feel...i miss my car too. been doing the swap for about 1 month now, and have been without my car for about 2 weeks.

its a lot of work and takes a long time to do when you are doing it on your own.

Ahhh anticipation, how fun is that. Well at least you know it will be great when you get it back. Good luck!

Oh yeah and make sure you keep as all posted with what's going on...you know us possible future swappers can't get enough information about swaps that people here actually do biggrin.gif

Lagos - I have a lot of respect for guys like you and 3sgtecelica who can do this massive project on their own. My auto mechanic skills end somewhere shortly after changing the oil. So, I do it the old fashion way - I pay someone else who knows what they are doing.

How are things coming? What are the remaining issues?
