i was just wondering how much you guys spend on your suspension. And 1 question. Lets say i have the coilovers with me and i wanted to install them at a local shop, about how much would it cost? Sorry, i don't have any shop experiences since i do most of the mods by myself. Thanks

I've currently have $600 worth of suspension components on the car, and $115 worth of suspension/chassis-reinforcement components sitting in my room waiting for me to install them.

My coilovers costed me $125 for installation at a local shop a while ago.

I did the work myself. If you have access to a hoist, try it. It'll take 4-6 hours depended on experience with tools.... but the difficulty level isn't that high. Read the how-to article.

You paid way, way, way too much. I did mine with GC coilovers for less money. And in canadian funds.

I did my neons myself, and will be doing my celicas soon. Very easy to do, just have a day clear, and make sure you have all the tools ahead of time. Kind of hard to run to town if you have 2 tires off and the car in the air!
I did call around first and Midus told me something like 35 per tire???? But I was afraid to let them touch my car and screw it up (remember...I live in the middle of nowhere)

I was wondering if anyone would catch that. Believe it or not, I don't feel ripped off. The thing is that they are not your typical off-the-shelf Konis. They were converted from single adjustable to double adjustable, shortened by half and inch, degassed nitrogen charge, and revavled for an autocross specific application. Ran me a bit over $560 per corner. This is about what it would cost Koni to do for about any car.

Basically what these shocks do is simulate a much higher spring rate than you have with stock springs. Additionally, if I crank the rebound down, I can 'jack' the car down onto the bumstops a few turns into the course, and end up with a real stiff ride.

Obviously, these are not shocks most people will want, and for what it is worth, they are hand-build by Koni NA upon request. Turn around time is 6-8 weeks.

You are right, though, you can get a full set of Koni + CG coilovers (with custom spring rate) for less... but I cannot change my springs, so the only option for me is to simulate a higher spring rate via crazy valved shocks. Believe it or not, there are more expensive shocks I could have bought... I chose the 'economy' route. biggrin.gif

The only companies that make struts for our cars are koni and KYB. Koni has 8-way adjustable yellows for around $170 or so a pop. The KYB's are just oem replacements and far cheaper. I'd say go koni.

Get some nice tires too. Those made a killer change in my handling. Eagle F1 gs-d3's

Don't you mean Tokico? From what I have hear Tokico makes some killer shocks/struts. Aren't the blues the 5 way adjustables or is that the yellows. Either way I heard they are pretty bad a$$. Like everyone else is saying koni and kyb are other alternatives. If price is a big concern go kyb but if you want a good ride to go with your new springs go kyb. Does Tokico even make struts for our cars?

yeah i don't think Tokico makes struts for our cars. So i'm thinking about getting Koni. These are good struts right? So what will happen if i got some really cheap coilovers? Performance will be horrible? The coilovers i have is a nameless brand so i'm worried.

KYBs are not cheap, they just aren't adjustable like the konis
it's a $200 or $600-700 thing

the konis are much more practical because you can set them ready fordaily driving through the week then track driving on weekends, but the KYBs will always be at a calm middle smile.gif

KYB's will never be at a calm middle. They will ride like brand new OEM shocks.
