okay just tried to install my twm shifter, many many things didnt go my way. Firstly (there is a point to this thread) the pins wouldnt come out, took a lot of effort until they finally came out, after maybe 45 minutes of trying, then the clip holding the far pin wouldnt come off, took another 25 minutes trying to get that off. Then when i finally do get the shifter out, get the plastic cups off, what do i find? They do not fit onto my TWM shifter, you know how theyre supposed to 'pop' onto the balls? They dont. This is a problem right?

Okay, bringing up an old topic of mine, so as not to clog the forum hehe, I gave the guys at TWM a call just then, and got the measurement for the balls the cups fit on and it seems that I was sent the right shifter, now I'm doubting my shifter assembly, (completly stock), does anyone know of Toyota making 6gc with different shifter assemblys? Because Matt said that they've shipped them to Australia before with no problems??

was the ball on the shifter too big for the cup, or too small?
Cause It needs a lil force for it to snap into place. Took me about 10 min. to finish everything. |

the balls are too small, they go into the cups with way too much give, they slot in and out with at least a mm gap on one side

i dont guess if you were to call twm and explained them you situation they could repace the shifter with one with another bigger ball and it would still work?

i just installed my TWM shifter last night. which i must say made a huge difference. i am very pleased. but thats not to say i didnt go through many problems. like little clips falling down into the abbyss and never being able to find them again, then having to make my own make shift part. took me close to three hours.
with the cups, all i did was grease them up really good with white grease. Then on a flat surface i put the ball in the cup and put all my weight down on it and it popped right in. I think greasing it up really helped. This was kinda dangerous cause on the second ball i slipped and smashed my knuckles on the table but eventually i got it in oohhhh the metal balls on the shifter are to small?? wtf. i dont know how thatt happened. did you compare the stock shifter to the twm? can you notice a difference? mine and your car are the same year. but mine is a GT and yours is an SX. i dunno if that would make a difference or not. well mine fit perfectly. you should call up toyota and find out if you have the stock shifter. maybe thats not the orginal one. you can probably order those balls from toyota for really cheap. 5-10 bucks.
