well, i know there are big differences in the different generations in 3sgte's the 165 sucks period, most of us do 2nd gen swaps cause it is either A: cheaper or B: more parts for the second gen. now what is the big difference between the second gen and 3rd gen? i would think with the same block you would be able to use the same parts right? if not educate me. please? i am eventually going to do the swap and i figure if i get the 205 front clip i get the projectors also so that saves me money in the long run.... any way any info would help thanks.

First off all I dodnt think you have any idea what the 165 can do in a 6th gen?I know because ive seen it and I have one.All the 3 gens are wicked and they come with more power stock than the 165 but what is 25 hp!I just turn up my boost 3psi and there is 30 more horse. The truth is get educated about all the gens and know the differences before you judge. 2nd gen motor costs $1500.the 1st gen cost $1000 and the $500 extra buys you a fmic and a downpipe.I think of things in a more efficient way because when your car can run more efficient it will make more horse!!

there are sevral diffrences between generations...(not that i konw them all!! lol)
but heres a couple
gen 1 water to air intercooled. its like what guys 200hp?
gen 2 top mount air2air intercooler, 225hp
gen 3 back to water to air, but a better setup then the gen 1 around 250-260hp
theres ALOT more to it all than that, im just not that smart...lmao wink.gif
most of the swaps are 2nd gen for a few reasons.
#1 the 1st gen 3s is now somewhere around 14-16 yrs old...and is rated lower HP than the other 2
#2 parts are readily available for the 2nd gen 3s here in the us,...3rd gen parts usually have to be ordered from japan which= downtime. which all of us hate
the 3rd gen 3s is a beast,..and has been known to snap the gt tranny's axels like twigs.. wink.gif

the 3rd gen motor got a lot of nice upgrades that the 2nd gen dosnt have. i believe it comes with stronger pistons, higer flowing injectors, ct20b turbo (way better then the ct26) etc...

if u add it all up, it really does make sense to buy a third gen motor. the only thing im worride about is the wiring. it seems like the car would need very little changes to the harness, because its the same generation car, but who knows.

speed, we know you're just defending your gen.. but it's worse than the other ones. It's older, will break more, harder to get parts; has to run at higher psi, etc etc

this is more of what i am talking about, the different upgrades the older gens didnt have... im still in turmoil on what i should get. i would love a 3rd gen 3s but if i have to get a 2nd gen i know people on here are happy with it so it wont be too "depressing" to have it i guess..... lol
