i was just wondeing for you swaped guys are your cars still good at cornering. i cant imagine the celi still being good at cornering with all that weight at the front.
also if anyone knows how much the 5sfe weighs to the 3sgte. also 3sgte has a iron block right? - making it heavier. -------------------- Former: 96 GT 5 speed (i/p/e) Fate- rear ended by mack truck
00 GTS 6 speed (i/ Bored TB 63mm - 68.5mm w/ butterfly/ Ported IM/ IMG/ PFC/ Commander/ datalogit/ Ported & heat wrapped Header/ Decat/ UEGO/) 193FWHP 14.2(1/4mi) @98mph, 2.12 60ft (just intake, unbolted Exhaust, and gutted) Fate- side swipped by 18 wheeler at 75mph. Next: maybe an elise |

picked this off a forum about the MR2 NA vs MR2 Turbo
Really? What evidence do you base your opinions on? I wouldnt reccomend just a turbo engine either. This is because teh Turbo models use a E153 transaxle, a much stronger peice of equipment than n/a's A241E type transaxle, thus, the engine, along with the transxle must be replace. Also, turbo models had stronger axles, all together, better brakes(J-Spec), better suspension. ou would also need the turbo transmission, which cmoes with longer gear ratios. But, with the turbo, and its iron 3SGTE block (weighing in at ~300lbs) will weigh about 2800lbs, whereas the n/a is only 2600lbs. Overall, if you are planning to do the swap, (which isnt as hard as you think), here are some helpful links; so 200lbs, but if you had subs i'd say 150-180 someone else want to say what can be done(ie 5th gen springs on either front or back to counter the added weight)? -------------------- |

the 3sgte does add more weight to your car. i noticed the front of my car sitting lower then it did before the swap, but it dosnt seem to make the car handle any worse.

The Celis are one of the best handling FWD cars out there. I imagine that you could toss a blacksmith anvil in the car somehwere and it would still corner pretty well.
That said, a stock car from the factory comes with some compromises so as to please GrandmaGroceryGetter. If you are interested in making the Celica handle better (3SGTE swpa or not) there are parts out there to do that. I would suggest a nice spring/shock combo and a some better sway bars. At the very least, this will more than offset whatever handling characteristics adding 200lbs to the front of the car would. |

The last two posts are absolutely correct. My swapped 3s handles like a dream but I have an aftermarket suspension....

agreed 200 lbs isnt a ton of weight, especially when its weight centered over the drive axles... the added weight for a 3sgte over a 5sfe is "better weight" than the addition of subs or driving around cargo in the back because where it is located. 135 HP/115 ft. lbs (this is off of memory please correct the torque figure if i am wrong) - 2600 lbs 200 HP/ 200 Ft. lbs - 2800 lbs the added power definatly more than compensates for the added weight. stiffer springs, thicker sway bars, and stiffer dampers and it will handle 10X better than a factory celica would. -------------------- Believer, you'll leave her, in leaving them all No but I don't buy it Like anything you do, as anyone you are Cause I'm... The slight weight gain is not of major concern simply because the torque and power increase negates it all. Both engines are iron block BTW...
As for handling, I haven't driven a 3SGTE swapped Celica, but in the corners, it'll be close depending on the track. Big Power doesn't mean as much in the tight corners as linear power... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

I would definitely welcome that bit of extra weight to help keep the tires on the ground
