So here i am in maths (lovely as always ) and im just thinking about this situation:
Bill and Jim each own some nice cars, which put up agaisnt each other are evenly matched. Bill has just put in a Nitrous Oxide kit (which gives him an advantage). Hes added a fake guage that reads empty near the cylinder of the NO (but the cylinder is full). So here they both are at their local dragstrip/street/highway/racetrack and it goes like this: Bill: hey man $xxx says my car is faster Jim: oh yea. hey is that a NOs kit i see? Bill: yea have a look <jim has a look and sees the guage as empty> Jim: the guage says its empty Bill: it sure does Jim: OK, in that case sure. They race and Bill kicks Jim's arse. The thing im wondering is; Does Bill deserve the win (and money)? he didnt actually say the kit was empty. Whjat you guys think? This is sorta a half-thought thing as im in maths bored as hell. Oh yea, and in no way do these characters represent anyone real. |

he shouldve asked the driver with the NO2 to open the release valve to make sure it was empty. then again this was a street race and technically the rules are run what you bring so it wasnt cheating.

I would side with Bill right up until Jim's last statement. If Jim had merely said "Sure" instead of "ok, in that case sure", Jim would have got what was coming to him (he assumed the risk). However, since Jim said "in that case", he put Bill on ACTUAL notice that he assumed that NOS would not be used. At that point, Bill owed Jim an explanation prior to letting Jim agree to the terms of the bet. Without the statement "in that case", Bill had no specific knowledge of Jim's assumptions and would have had no affirmative obligation to correct Jim's ASSUMPTION.

Well Jim didn't ask the right questions and Bill never lied about his bottle. Dumb people should be punished! Jim deserves it. Maybe he'll learn a lesson.

It's all a W. When it comes to street racing and gambling, you have to dishonest. Come on, you've got money on the line, and you'll do whatever you can to win.
In your bigger cities where they actually have street racing, people find nos all the time. It's not hard, you just put the bottel in a dash, and hide your lines. It's all about looking slow, and making people think your slow. Then taking their money. -------------------- NASA/SCCA RX-7....currently under the knife

is it cheating yes.. should he get the win yes... simply cause its only cheating if you are caught ... and jim never asked if the bottle was empty or if Bill was going to use the NO ... so jim just learn a lesson if you don't ask the right questions.. you will bent over like a little girlyman in jail..
