Hi,
I just got an Apple Ipod Mini this past weekend. I had the adapter where u hook up the tape to the tape player in the car , but the sound quality is horrible... I saw that alpine has a thing for 100 dollars that will charge the ipod while you use it, and allows you to control the ipod from an alpine headunit...

But right now im going for whats cheapest. Is there any other method to hook up my ipod to my stock cd player besides the tape adapter, or the radio transmitter that some companies sell for the ipod (still has bad sound quality)...??

Thanks,
Rob

I don't think the stock radio has an audio input built in and that would be your only real option... unless you wanted to unplug the harness from the back of the radio and splice in a few wires to attach a headphone jack to... but I wouldn't bother. Most newer headunits have an RCA audio in (some I've seen, JVC's at least, even have a headphone jack sized input right on the front) that you could hook an ipod into. You could control the volume through your headunit if you did that but you'd still have to do everything else on the ipod.

Yes. You need a new head unit.

And the "splicing into the back of the old HU" isn't an option

It would work... well or the back of the built in amplifier whatever. You could just tap into the speaker wires. But like I said, it wouldn't be worth it. The sound wouldn't be any better 'cause in that case the speakers would be powered by your tiny lil' iPod.

Another option might be one of those little mini radio transmitters I've seen that you can plug into your headphone jack. I haven't heard anything about the quality though.

No, it wouldn't work for the exact reasons you mention. the ipod headphone jack puts out less than a watt of power; it wouldn't drive the speakers one millimeter. Furthermore, you would no longer have a headunit for playing tapes or radio.

an FM Modular should work as Itchy said, read into it and see what you find.

Yes an inline FM modulator would work, such as the ones sold in the XM Car kit.

If you live in a place with a good amount of radio station though, don't even bother getting a fm transmitter

Here is a good option. It allows you to use the CD changer input as an AUX input.

you can hard wire the ipod to the factory sound system, only if you have the factory amplified system. You can buy the wiring harness adapter that you would normally would buy to put in an aftermarket HU then wire in RCA's to the speaker in connections on the harness. Connect the 12volt power to a resister and then to the remote wire on the harness. then buy the mini to RCA cord at bestbuy for likek $6. this way the factory amplifier is on when the ignition is on and you control the volume on the ipod.

Return the ipod and buy a MP3 headunit/MP3 CD changer?

10 disc*700 mb is 7 gigs, more than the Mini's four, and no batts to deal with.

My friend showed me his ipod mini today too, those things are hott.
