Hi, I own a 94 Celica ST now, and i bought this car for $4,000, then $1,000 for new 17" rims and tires, $300 for intake & exhaust system, $500 for sound system, $350 for bodykits and wing, $300 for interior, and etc........maybe do engine swap for $2,000-$3,000, then new bodywork and paint job for $2,000-$2,500.
so this is what i want to talk about now.....I have a "Senior" friend (he cares about me so mucn) he own a 93 Nissan 300z TT....he always tell me this..." how much money you spend in your car now?? And how much you gonna spend more?? so plus the price of your car now is almost $6,000-$7,000.....and maybe soon you want to swap and paint, then there is another $4,000-$5,000....total is about $11,000-$12,000, then how much you think you can sell for your car in the future?? $6,000?? $7,000?? or more?? who willing to pay you that much to buy your car?? for real?? i know you always say you can sell your celica in a good price.....but for real...how much you can sell for your car ?? why don't you just spend your $12,000 for a better car like non turbo Supra, 300z TT, 3000GT, or RX7??? More people willing to look at those cars more than your Celica.......talk about fast.....which car your Celica can beat?? you only smell the smoke....." after he told me this....i'm so mad ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() so what do you think?? did anyone told you something like that before??I want to hear some ideas from you guys...please...... i'm so confused ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by tengys: Mar 18, 2005 - 12:55 AM |

Yea, of course people say that, but everyone likes different things and that's something he doesnt understand. 3000GT's are much faster than our cars same with a non turbo Supra, 300z TT, or RX7. I don't know about you, but if I wanted a fast car straight from the factory, I would've bought one. The difference between people like him and people like us is we're not only interested in more power and more speed, but we're interested in doing it ourselves. Anyone can have fun driving a fast car they bought, but for us buying a car like the celica isn't just the end product of a fast car, it's the journey in making it fast. I don't know about you, but i'm not selling my car unless I absolutely have to. We all put a lot of time in our cars customizing them and making them the way we want them to be, so in a sense our cars are an expression of ourselves. And I don't know about you, but i'm not for sale. You may spend a good amount of money on your car, but I bet you when it's all done, you'll be happier with it than with any other car.

yeah, well i didnt buy my car. it was pretty much given to me and my parents are so mad at me cuz we have to do everything custom and i end up always workin on the car more than i do homework. ha ha. everyone is bias in there views and such, celica isnt a fast car, its unique and sex-ee.
-------------------- the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

Fact of life that 99% of the time you are not going to get back the same amount of money that you have spent on your car. Just one of those things. I'm budgeting over NZ$70k for my tarmac rally car project and tehre is no way that I'd get anywhere near that when (or if) I come to sell it.
In my opinion, at lot of it is down to originality. It's about turning your car into something personal - adding the things that you like and making it into something that you are proud of. Even if you were to spend your money on an RX7, Supra etc, would you keep that standard? Probably not - you'd do the same thing over again. Until someone says the same thing but starts to mention the words Porsche and Ferrari. Where will it stop? So long as you accept that you're going to lose money on the mods that you do, don't let it stop you is what I say ![]() Gary -------------------- ![]() 1994 ST205 Celica GT-FOUR Group A WRC - running in new engine 1993 Rover 220 GTi tarmac rally car (under construction) 3SGE power here we come.... you could make it fast as well if you wanted too
3s-gte 3rd gen swap... you could begin getting some serious speed out of the car. but, stop - take a look around, how many people around you own and drive a celica that looks nice and that they obviously care for?? plus as with anything you wont get as much money as you put into the car. but you should get the amount of fun, and enjoyment you paid for =) |

Cars worth only what someones willing to pay for it. When you modify your car, you've basically eliminated anybody but teenagers buying it, therefore they dont have any money, and cant pay much.

People willing to do things and spend money on the things they like. Regardless if it's worth it or not. If you like your Celica that much, fix it up and make it look nice! If your plan is to get a new ride after a year or 2, then save the money for a good down payment.

This might not be true for most people... but im guessing it is with most of our age groups. I personally just came across the celica and never even thought about it.. then just bought it cause i needed a car asap. Then sence I came across this site, i have seen what can be done to them, and kinda fell in love. For me its money issue. I dont have enough to go buy what i really want, a 15k m3. But I can afford to spend $50 here, $100 there.
Some people say why not just pay payments on a newer car. A: I dont wanna be stuck having to pay for somthing, otherwise i woulda bought this bad ass bm w.. but Its no fun having to be stuck working for somthing. Were now I can go make money then spend it on the car if i want, and its paid off. Also I think when you do put money into your car, it will make it worth more, but it will also loose value along with the car and along with any other better car. The problem is, with a 12k car your going to be putting just as much extra money time and effort into it, and its only worth more or going to sell for more, for its first investment. |

this is my feeling on my car and the money i spend
Yeah the car was 8,500 and ive put about 8,000 in it (including aftermarket and some maintence due to it being an older car and what not) and that equals 16,500 but I didnt have all that money at one time so thats why i have my car now and why i play with it. cuz i never have the lump sum of money just money here and there -------------------- Cruisin down the street in my Infiniti...always lookin for my next trip to Sin City

celicas not ment to compete with those cars anyway.. totally different. imo, us celica lovers buy them because theyre just celicas and we love that. sure , theyre not the fastest thing in the world, but they are decently quick and badass to look at. sorry i felt like i needed to take up for the celica haha

I actually said to myself that same thing. I bought my celica for 9500, with 9500 I could have gotten a b18 civic, or a GS-R.
NOW MY CAR IS FORSALE. |

What he said its pretty tue. You can spend $1000 on tires and rims, but once those tires and rims are mounted, good luck on getting even 75% of the value. The investment you put in for say exhaust/stereo/paint/suspension is likely never going to be returned when you sell the car. For example last year I had my car repainted for $2000 (CAN), however it didn't increase the value of the car by that same amount, in fact it likely decreased the value since a car which has been repainted will lose retail value. Whatever money you put into your Celica, never expect it someone will pay for it when you try and sell it. Now if you are restoring a 60's vette or mustang than you have a good chance you can actually make money from the investment. In regards to the power of in the celica vs basically any other "sports car" especially a Nissan 300, or even 240, you probably will be smoked. I know my ST could get smoke by an echo due to power to weight.

Customizing a car more often than not REDUCES the value of a car if you tamper with too much stuff... Plain and simple- if you dont know if it was top notch professional work- would you risk buying it? If some random shop did a swap into a car thats 5+ years old you bet i'd be thinking no Fing way... If its custom and for sale- i wanna see some throphies...
