I currently own a 1989 Celica SX (GT) "white lightning" but im looking for something a bit newer. The one car i have my heart set on is the 6gc biggrin.gif but there is a couple of things im concerned about.

First is room. In my current car, i find the roof is a tad too low, causing my hair to rub the roof and head to occasionally hit it when going over a bump.

Second is performance. Would a 6gc >= then my current car in performance, both power and handling.

third is models. Finding a celica coupe here in AUS is next to impossible and most people have SX model celicas. Im looking at the ZR model but could anyone outline what exactly the difference are. All i know at the moment is passenger airbag, abs, sideskirts and cruise control

cheers

well for your first thing, i'm 6'2 and i have no probs at all in the celi not sure how tall u are.

second, as long as u get a gt equivelent( not sure AUS model) you will beat your current car and handling will be better as well.

im 180cm... so im guessing the 4th gen is just a small car. And im glad that it will beath the current one.

Just another quick question, i know the 5s-fe is a dog to mod, but would a stock or modded (exhaust, intake, grounding kit) be able to take a lancer on?

lol, yes i was talking base.

so what do you guys reckon is the best value performance mod and best value useful mod to do to a 6gc. On Everything celica they voted the s2000 antenna as the most useful.

I believe the 4th gen came with the 3S-GE engine with 86kW.

The 6th gen Aus celis (SX / SX-R / ZR, apart from the almight ST205) have the 100.71 kW 5S-FE.

If you have problems fitting in the Celi, remember that you have seat adjusters that allow you to lower the seating angle (there's two: First round knob controls the angle between the upright back of the chair to the horizontal seat while the second adjusts the horizontal seat itself and its height) - and thus your head room.

And all Aus celicas are GT equivalent in terms of performance. However, ZR would be the true equivalent to the GT. Try to buy one from an old couple or middle aged female. That means they'll usually have less km and would be thrashed about less compared to one driven by a young teenager (potentially, anyway - my car is an exception to that "rule").

Apart from what you have mentioned, you could probably also count in fog lights, leather bound steering wheel and alloy wheels (and full alloy spare) as differences between SX and ZR.

im currently looking at this celica

MAKE/MODEL: Toyota Celica ZR
YEAR: 1997
ODOMETER: 109,000kms
PRICE: $16,900.00

One thing that the owner said was that this model is a coupe version not a liftback. I have done a little research and from what i can find the coupe has a bit more room and a stronger structure. What other differences are there? Is the boot size the same? Will body kits and wings from a liftback fit onto the coupe? What about the GT4 kit that im looking at?

cheers

Coups sexier tongue.gif Honestly they just feel different when driving in them. Coupe has different tails and less bodykit support.

If i were to buy a 6th gen what would you guys reccomend to replace the engine with if i wanted. I know the 3sgte is quite heavy on the fuel, but is the non turbo version that bad? How does it go for power. Im a student so i cant afford heaps of fuel and im just wondering whether a 3sge would suit me better then a 5sfe

Also, keep in mind that turbos carry heavier insurance premiums, especially for young drivers. Swapping in a 3SGE would cost a couple of grand, and considering that Celicas are already overpriced, it *probably* isn't worth it. You could probably find a decent Commonwhore or better yet an Imprezza WRX (like an MY99) for around $20k which would give more bang for your buck.

To me, the perfect 6th Gen Celica is the SS-III with the BEAMS 3S-GE engine. This comes in at about 200 HP, with regular 3S-GEs at 170 HP I believe. However, no SS version Celicas were imported into Australia, as far as I know. So you'll need to swap a 3SGE in from another car if you want a performance boost.

Even though the 5S-FE is horribly underpowered for a sports (or sporty?) coupe, at least it's reliable as hell. And it does city/urban stop-go driving at 10L/100km (or 6L/100km on highway).

To compare, my ride is a '96 ZR with 83000 km for $18 grand, from dealer.

thanks for the reply.
I have pretty much dropped the idea of a commonwhorebecause they are too common lol. I want something a bit individual. I know the 5sfe is awesome on fuel but i was wondering how the 3sge went against it in fuel economy.

Im looking at eather a ZR (hopefully) or a SX-R if i can add abs on as a mod for cheapish.

Cheers

i had a 4th gen befor my 6th gen and yes, you sit lower in the sixth gen so your'll fit in ok........

mate if your driving hard and fast or alot of moter way traveling then the GS GE is what you want......

as for coupe or liftback...... the celica is a liftback in my opinuion and look best the coupe and vert's where only really made for the US market to boost sales...

Get yourself a GT-4, it;s the only real choice, and you can get one over there un-like our poor friends across the pond frown.gif

Yeah i have already decided liftback if at all possible. As for buying a gt4 straight out. 1. Its too dear 2. Insurance would kill me with turbo 3. Fuel would make my corpse reignite with loss of money.

If the 6th gen will have as much poke as my 4th gen (which someon said it would) And im hoping its suspension will be heaps better.. then i will be happy with the 5sfe. But im just curous on how the 3sge goes for fuel economy if i wanted to put one of them in.
