Better for what? A 3sgte? I would think that the tranny designed for the 3sgte would be better. However the solara is already converted to FWD, not like its too hard to do the MR2. I dont think the solara has LSD, and its also got different gearing IMO not the best for 3s.

build wise they are the same. Make sure you get one with dual cone syncros. In the MR2T, its the 93+. I am not sure what year solars had the better syncros. Also, any aftermarket LSD that works in the MR2T tranny will work in the V6 Solara tranny from the 1999+- era. They are both E-153 transmissions.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

What aftermarket parts are you referring to? Like I said, the aftermarket LSD's fit both.

The Solara has slighty differeint gearing but Im pretty sure its only 4th and 5th gears, better highway millege woot! I know that the first 3 gears are almost the same ratio as the 3sgteLSD tranny. I am using this tranny so Ill let you all know what I think of it.

Jgrenning - I wasnt aware that any LSD could fit the solara tranny, Have some links to support this?

Any MR2T LSD. Try the kaaz or quaife websites. I think you will find that the same LSD (model #) works for both the MR2T and Solara transmissions.

The Solara tranny IS stronger than the GT celica tranny. It is the same as the MR2T tranny in terms of strength. The nice thing about the solara tranny is that you do not have to convert the shifter forks and most used solara trannies have less milage. The only down side is the taller gears and some people claim thats an advantage. Oh yea, and the lack of OEM LSD.

anyways,
dual cone synchros?(can you explain why two cones are necessary instaed of 1)
is it also the 93+ that have LSD?

Syncro wear. The 91-92 MR2T trannies are notorious for problems after 100k miles. The 93+ are much better.
