Im trying to save as much money on car maintenence as possible and am just curious how difficult it is to do a cap and rotor replacement yourself. I have little under the hood know-how, so if its a somewhat big undertaking, I may steer clear. Anyone done this? Thanks.

one a scale on 1-5

it would definitly be a 1
there are 4 screws that hold your cap to the distributor..

and the cap just gets pulle straight off..

it would take you about 30.

make sure you have the ignition off.

So it wont mess up the ignition timing at all? I mean I wont have to reset it? I dont feel like running out to my car to see exactly where these bolts are haha... so you wont be messing with the bolts that are used to turn the distributor in a process such as timing adjustment?

What about the rotor??

the cap has nothing to do with timing. Adjusting the distributor will affect timing. The cap has the 4 plug wires connecting to it and is very easy to change. Just use a screwdriver to turn the 4 screws holding it on. Don't worry, you really can't mess this up.

Yeah I did the whole "plugs wires cap and rotor" tune up deal myself. Saved me about 130 bucks in labor costs. Redicuous. If only I could get to the fuel filter to change that myself... Thats gonna cost about 110 to have done.
