how much gains would i expect from a p&p if any1 did that to their 5sfe?...i was told that it would probably get 10-15hp....but after the fact, would i also need to adjust the valves seeing that engine work was done?

I would say 20-30, the 5S head is pretty restrictive.

I'm guessing Stage 3 giving 20-30, head refresh, pocket port, and upgraded valvetrain.

Port/polish isn't really a "power adder". It will increase the engine's efficiency, but you can't put any numbers on the increase mostly because it's all based on the port design, flow volume, velocity, amougst other things. Even with a ported head, if your intake manifold and exhaust manifold are poorly flowing, you're not gonna feel a thing. It's just not one of those things that add immediate power because a ported head is more of a support modification that allows other parts to work better.

Exactly why you need to upgrade the intake, port match the manifold and polish the manifold, and add a CAI for the intake side of things, the stock header isn't that bad but if you get the exhaust side done I would recommend it and an exhaust. You won't see boost or nitrous type gains but you increase the volume of air flow into the combustion chamber. A straight port and polish wont net you much gain but if you do the rest it will get you a lot. Also like you said kwanza it determines the design, if you have a head with a low cfm then you'll get low power due to restricted flow, get your head flow tested prior to anything to get a benchmark and see what kind of flow you get after the work is done.

There is no true "stage" but it's how machine shops classify the amount of work. One shop could have 10 stages of head work, while another might have 4. Here is a shop that specializes in import head work and does Toyotas.

Through DPR it determines the stage you choose, they do GE heads so they shouldn't have a problem with FE, I know they're different but most heads have similar design regardless if it's a VTEC head, Vortec head, or a push rod, flat top design. Simply all heads have intake, exhaust and some way to open both so call DPR and ask what they will charge for a stage xx job on an FE head.
