well my car needs new tires, and i was hoping that the previous owner put on biggersize tire, so i could just buy the smaller factory size and save me some money, but i guess i already have the factory size. from what ive priced out locally my tires are going to be over 100 bucks a piece.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

^^ Don't do that. It'll screw up your speedometer/odometer. Just use the correct tire size... Your handling would suffer as far as cornering, too.

HOLYCOWWPATTIES...when you have a 205/60/15 instead of STOCK 205/55/15 you will be going 62mph at 60mph!!! OMGSOHHHWWW... I will get tires twice as cheap and go a couple mph faster! Its also .4inch more sidewall so if your on stock suspension it looks alot better smile.gif You wont notice any loss of handling...you will probably gain handling if you buy nice tires.

BS. The shorter the sidewall, the better the cornering assuming you don't buy POS tires. Anyways, if you just buy them from Tirerack, you CAN get them cheap and not worry about compromising your handling, speedometer, odometer, etc, no matter how slight.

Shorter sidewalls should give you better handling, yes! But thats if all things are equal...Every brand/model of tire is going to have a different sidewall stiffness which is going to effect handling in a way. All i said is going from a 205/55/15 to a 205/60/15 you probably will not notice any difference if you get a decent tire. That .4inch taller sidewalll also costs you about 20$ less PER TIRE from tirerack.

BTW: Putting 205/50/16's on your car has set it off alittle if your worried that much. I have the same size on my GTS rims smile.gif Its as close as you can go to stock but like i said...If i could save 20$/tire and not really compromise much (its not like i professionally race my celica) i would go with a slightly different size tire that works just fine.

Go to 1010tires.com and read their tire tech section. It will answer this question and all the ones that will inevitably follow.

Short answer: no and yes.

See the post above your question...it'll take less time for you to read than for somebody to explain tire sizing and fitment to you.
