Just bought the car, checked oil and its lower than lower on the oil stick. The owner whome I trust told me that he changed oil 3500 MI before. Is it normal for celicas to loose that much oil? I looked under the car and there wasn't any oil leaks nor it has any smoke when running.
One more question, the car just hit 90K what should I do? Do I have to change timing belt and fuel pump or can I wait? What else do I need to do? Thank you. -------------------- <<AKA THA RUSSIAN>>

But when I asked the dude about the oil he told me that its fine. So I was a little bit confused because all of the cars I've ever seen or had never lost most of its oil before the change. That's not good guys. I don't think it's normal...I know that my 4A-GE doesn't burn any oil. And if your oil level isn't registering at all on the dipstick, that's a sign that your motor has permanent damage from oil starvation.

My 7a burns oil just as bad, I have to add about a quart every 2 weeks or so. When I get on it higher than 3.5k rpm's it starts to smoke like a freight train, basically my rings are going. Probably yours are too.

It says in the celica's owner manual that oil usage is totally normal. Just change the oil and put some 10w40 in it. Keep checking it everytime you fill up for gas and add if you need to. If your using more than 1qrt every 3000miles then your piston rings are probably wore out like mine are...i dont worry about it though, i just keep adding my cheap 99cents/qrt oil every now and then
As far as the timing belt goes its up to you. The engine is non-interference so if it breaks it will do NO damage. The car wont run though so you'll end up stuck somewhere. You will probably just want to get it changed now then get stuck somewhere and have to get it towed. This post has been edited by bufferdan: Jul 18, 2005 - 9:05 AM -------------------- |
