I'm not sure if this question was asked yet or not, But is there enough room in the celica engine bay to swap in a camry V6? The V6 has a lot more parts available for it (in the U.S. atleast) than the 3s-gte, and being a bigger engine seems like it would have more potential. But beyond the debate, could it work?

You're saying the 3s-GTE doesn't have as much potential as a Camry V6?

the install would be much harder, and the 3sgte is going to have a lot more potential than a camry engine. so i would see no reason to do it

It can work, but it'll be all custom ****. Too much hassel. It does have more potential if you go forced induction...but if not, 3sgte has far more potential. Either way, the V6 is too tall for our engine compartments (I just went out and made an estimate).

For the money involved, swap a 3sgte, build it for more boost, and boost it to ****. =]

I would say yes it can be done but that your prob can't without alot of custom fab and alot of money. I did read though in one of my magazines that they did swap in a 3 liter V-6 thats in the lexus rx300 and es300 (i think are the models). I dunno its prob the one in the camry too. They put it in a mr-2 and said with all the tubo equipment on the 3sgte, that they had similar dimensions and weights. The gain was more low end torque with the V-6 of course but man they did alot of work to make the switch. Im trying to find the magazine article with the engine codes and all that. Its one thing in the mr2 with the mid engine layout but i would think that since the v-6 weighs more so putting it in the front would screw with the weight distribution. Its actually a good idea, we should figure out the diff in weights becauase you could find the V-6 for alot less than aa 3sgte and it puts out like 200-225 hp so its comarable in power. Someone smart like Charlie let us know how possible it is to do in our Celicas.

i will not diss you on here.

think about it like this.

v6 maybe 200 hp

3s-gte 205-255 (depending on what gen) that's stock

celicas are not meant for v6's they are not big enough. in the end spending all the moo la on custom v6 parts you can have the 3s-gte up to high power potential


3s-gte's are a lot easier to swap in than any v6 and in my opinion totally not worth it

If it is the 1Z what ever, it should definitely be able to fit since it put very well with little trouble in the MR2.

You will have that nice v6 sound with lots of power when turbocharge.

I would perfer that swap than the 3sgte since the engine weight the same or less.

The only problem is the F head.

Turbomagazine have yet to push the mr2 swap to over 400hp.

Actual, there are using a supercharger + turbo.

At my old job, I was talking to this mechanic guy about cars. I told him that i wanted to put in a nw enige, but wasn't sure what to do. He said that he used to have a celica and was going to put in a V6 camry engine (wrecked his car b4 he could do it). I asked if it was possible since its bigger than ours. He said that it would fit fine (but not much room left over) since our engine compartment is big for our small enigne. I can;t remember what shop it was, but if i remeber, Ill ask him again to get details

Sport Compact Car had a big article on a V6 swap with a MR2 they dicussed they different engines and had over a six page article. It sounded like it would take weeks and the hardest part was the wiring because they could not find an engine from a manual car. They article basically explained in detail everything a person needed to do.

It took that long because there are doing a hybrid. Supercharger + turbo and testing them separately and trying to get them to work properly together.

Either way, the swap when great.

ya also in turbo and high tech performance they took out the 3s-gte in a 95 mr2 and put in a 1m-fze (i think thats what it was) and they used a compound charging system. which like what you guys are talking about. supercharger and turbocharger...they say that actually the v6 fit better than the turbo 4. i think it was like 350 hp at like 10 psi or something. but the great thing is that they supercharger kicked in at around 2200rpms. so they could feel boost right away.

I'm sure that a V-6 swap would cost much more than a 3s swap though. Money is the major thing with my car.

as for the swap yea you can do it... but is it worth it.. nope!

heres why - 1st off.. different subframes due to different engine families.

2nd - when you have ne kind of a "V" motor there are 2 of almost everything besides the block - what that means is when you try and upgrade the engine you gotta buy twice the stuff - you wanna turbo it? - probably gonna have to do a twin set up or a really creative piping lay out - would be easier to supercharge it. that is why alot of V6 imports dont have alot of performance support - Take the honda accord for example - honda has more aftermarket support than NE other company right? try finding parts for the V6 accord... there really isnt nething besides the basics - atleast thats how it was about 6months ago when I was looking into it.

4 cylinder motors are less expensive to modify than v6 or inline 6 motors thats why you see all kinds of civics running around - there cheap to do up.


In this case the 3sgte is the best way to go... think about this - its a direct swap, base wHp is between 180-280 dependin on what gen and type of 3sgte you get - thats pretty compreable to ne V6 I can think of... maybe not some of the inlines but the V's yes.

there are some race teams in Japan that have swapped out the 2jzgte for the 3sgte in there supras... that says ALOT.

Also the 6th gen HKS celica last time I checked holds the 1/4 mile top speed record of over 200mph - Thats fast... really freakin fast.

as for parts for the 3sgte there are tons of them.. you just gotta look for them - dont expect to find them at apc or some crap place like that.. and when you look for parts try looking for 2nd gen MR2 or 5th gen alltrac parts cuz u'll find more.
