No car should ever be treated like that... especially a supra Personally I think that guy is psycotic for going 200mph on a highway and he got what was comming to him for his idiocracy and insanity.

QUOTE(SlowCelica94 @ Jul 22, 2005 - 5:43 AM) One year the supras came in 5 speed because they couldn't get their **** figuered out on the 6spd. idk about that, its just that in CA in 1996, you couldnt get a TT with a 6spd, only auto. that car may have been a NA supra that was turboed. the motor might have been built, that would be why he revved so high past factory redline, and he definately had engine managment, as per the rock solid AFR and the lack of a rev limiter just past 7krpm it was a very fast car -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition

The NA MKIV Supra was available with a 5 speed every year, 93-98. The TT MKIV Supra came with a 6 Speed 93-95 & 97-98. No '96 6 speed because they couldn't get it to pass the Cali emissions Nazis so it wasn't offered, just Autos that year.
As for the car in the vid It definitly had a TT motor. It may have been converted from an NA but that is highly unlikely. The reason I say this is because the 5 speed rear differential is geared at 4.27. Mated to the 5 speed gearbox they max out at redline at about 170mph. I can't imagine that someone would go to all the trouble of doing a TT convertion and swapping in a TT rearend with 3.13 gears and not change to the 6 speed tranny. Either way they just wasted a $5000 motor. -------------------- 1995 Celica GT 5 Speed Convertible

Yeah they slapped a special edition badge on all the '96's to try and help the sales. Just remember this everyone a blade of grass in So-Cal died by the emissions produced by the Supra, the americans did the right thing by canning it, lol.
BTW 4.27 are you crazy dude, in a 5 speed that thing would top out at like 110 mph, the Celica GT 5 speed has 4.09 something (4.10 to be simple) and tops at 125 mph, why do you think it's every Mustang owners goal to get 4.10 gears (because the factory ratio doesn't put enough torque down, my 5 speed Mustang can barely spin the wheels more than 15 feet with Z-rated tires on unless I dump the clutch at 4,000 rpm). Actually the "Special Edition" badges were on the '97. And yes the 5 speed has a 4.27 rearend. See for yourself, it's under "gear ratios". The top speed is determined by a combination of things, transmittion ratios, rearend ratios, how much hp your car is putting out to get it to a cetain speed, wind resistance ie: drag, stupidity, luck, wanton disregard for life, etc, etc, etc...

I see what you mean it looks like it gains in 3-5th gears to hit that high number but first looks like a really tight ratio. Maybe SE was '97, I always thought '96 due to the lack of the 6 speed and turbo.

The '97 and '98 NA came with a 4.08 rear end so it topped out a little higher. The SE was '97 just like the Celica, since they started out as the same car they had the same Anniversary badging.

aside from the fact that he was beyond stupid to go that fast on the freeway, around other cars, and to race a bike at all.
it was a very nice supra that was probibly not fixed up by the same guy who was driving it. but dang to watch them staying right up next to the bike wile cars go whoshing though almost to the point where you cant even really see them, its crazy poor supra. makes me sad to see it so worked over, same feeling i get when I drive by this shop by work, they have a beat up red supra in the lot, I almost wana stop by and see if its for sale and what happen to it. -------------------- |

I "know" that guy.. It's Roger and the Supra is rebuild beyond imagination.. It puts down 1000 bhp (860 rwhp) + nitros. This is one of the scenes that are added to the Beyond the 1/4 mile volume 2 DVD.. And the engine isn't wasted at all.. It just spun a bearing. Roger drove home to Rods garage and took apart the entire engine in like 6 hours right after that "race". Found the error and got replacement parts.
These guys are crazy, yes.. But Roger knows what he is doing (I'm thinking about the 8k rpm here, not driving that fast on a public road.. That **** is crazy no matter how good you are). Any questions you want me to ask Roger? 5 speed / 6 speed for example? -------------------- |
