As of monday 8-22-05 My car is still stranded. I am only getting spark to one wire(3rd cylinder).
I switched that wire with the other ones to make sure the wires were good, and they are. A new cap and rotor didn't do anything but oddly now only the 4th cylinder gets spark.

I tested the coil and I get 0 resistance between the primary coil when I should be getting some. A test to the secondary coil shows the proper reading. Look slike I am going to have to replace the coil. Does anybody know if there compaitable between 94-99? How about 5th gen? I am curious if there the same since its obd vs obd2.

is there a fuel pump safety cut-off on our cars? if so check in the trunk area some cars go into safety mode when you run outta gas, also when you turn the key to "on" can you hear the pump prime? if not its probably in safe mode.

Does it crank when you turn the key. The pump may be stuffed, get under the car and hit the petrol tank with a mallet or heavy spanner a few times while someone turns the key. That'll free a seized pump.

I believe the fuel system is pressurized, if it is there should be a release valve somewhere that lets the pressure out, you may have air in you lines and it may need to be bleed out, just like brake lines.

It doesn't quite work like that Rjb23. The fuel system has a return line to the tank so air pockets eventually work themselves out of the system. When u unscrew the petrol cap you are releasing the system pressure.

It's more likely that the fuel pump is stuffed.

It only takes 20sec of running dry for a pump to be stuffed. That 1sec here and 1 sec there during the pump's life that will add up to about 20sec that will kill a pump.

Listen out for the pump priming when you turn the key to the on position. Other than that you squeeze the fuel line coming off the filter to the fuel rail and if its tight you have fuel pressure or if you can pinch the line making the inner walls touch, you have no pressure.

BTW push starting the car will not give you fuel pressure unfortunately. Only help if you have a flat battery.

I'm not a mechanic by trade but go on past experience so correct me if i'm wrong

Lots of bad news. i had to pay 70.00 to get my car towed. It completely cracked my rear bumper. My car won't start still. The good news is that at least its in my garage. I am interested if anybody knows for a fact if we have a fuel pump safety switch as discussed. Where is it at? I will probably test the fuel pump next.(after work) thanks guys

See, if you whack the gas tank, it can unseize the pump or if its a electrical connection issue, you may just get lucky and reconnect those bishes. Afterall, were not talking a he-man whack on the gas tank. Just a few love taps.

Change your fuel filter, if it sucked up the last bit of gas you prolly got it cloged. Its a good thing to do anyways, takes 5 mins and is only 6 bucks..

I heard from someone that the ECU computer shuts off the fuel pump. Is this true?
Should I just disconnect the battery to reset it?

Its not a hard thing to try.. ?I would still replace the fuel pump.. cause its prolly has crap in it, if you drove it empty.

lol this is very funny to watch. so many random ideas like banging on the gas tank and your comment about bad wires reconnecting.. lemme tlak about this real quick we've all disconnected our batteries right? what happends when u reconenct a hot lead with current? IT SPARKS!!!! so your suggesting to spark wires with the key on and then slapping the gas tank to not only stir things up but cause the spark at the same time.. please think before you comment something like that to a fellow member, how would u feel if his car has thousands in damage from this or it even semi blew up and hurt/killed him? just a thought. i hate stupid comments!

i have an alldata subscription to my car ill hunt for a safety kill switch and get back to you. also the ecu i do not think will shut off the pump like that but like said disconnect the batttery and give it a shot.

the ECU does shut off the pump and turn it on....thats a no brainer..our cars are EFI (ELECTRONIC fuel.....) the ecu does but i doubt thats your issue.......IMO its a dead pump replace it and you'll more then likely be fine....be smart, be safe, test it the smart way....check your wires, pull the pump inspect it....its not that hard its right under the back seat.....

and there is no kill switch.....
