I was going that root, but I think I'll do the MSD 6A ignition insted. I might do the Venoom or Jet later. I haven't heard to many things about them, and the ignition seems to be a lot more popular mod, especially with mr2s.

ignition is pointless....even ask the mr2guys.......its not goin to do you any advantage and is just BAD advice for sumthing you can do......
if you don't already have an exhaust, intake, header, downpipe, then for sure go for an ecu upgrade to get like 2hp outta it.... VENOM 400 is crap plain and simple just dumps in more fuel then you actually need and your gas milage goes to heck....bad bad bad JET now actually i think you send your ecu to and programs it for your specified mods....this is better if you really wanna do anything ECU wise spend 300$ go get an apexi SAFCII....a a/f gauge ...imo you'll be better off ignition stuff doesn't come up until you have a 300hp 7afte/5sfte or a 400hp 3sgte |

In my opinion, if you're gonna do something to an ecu go for a standalone unit or a piggy back unit.

If I was thinking about modifications that included anything other than the stock ECU I wouldn't limit my research to information from people on this website. There are very few people here that have successfully used either chipped ECU's, ROM tunes, piggy backs, or stand alones. Readers beware.

So far nothing is as hard as repairing your ECU by hand! The unit itself is delicate and the wires are solder onto the board. The hardest part is picking off which capaciter has exploded or is leaking. I just had to have this nasty experience cause I couldn't find a working 4age ECU fast enough. Don't upgrade your chip cause its a pain in da as. |

ecu upgrades ... do wonders even on stock engines... some people on here might not belive it but they do ... espically if you have a unite that changes as you drive ... if you want to add things like intake exhaust ... change your sensors and get yourself a good stand alone that can read everthing and you can program it to do exactly what you want.... this will get pricy ... but damn if it isn't fun... and it would be great to see someone do it in a 6gc ..

I'm bringing this back. I've searched for awhile, and I'm getting tired of it for a bit. Besides that, people have updates and what not. I'm putting a header on my car very soon. And after the header, I will have CAI, strate pipe, and lightweight flywheel. What's next on performance? I was thinking the SAFC2, but I'd have a really hard time getting to a shop to get it tuned. What's next, and not really expensive?
EDIT: I'm looking for engine mods only for now. I've got suspension undercontrol. This post has been edited by Bigmeanbulldog55: Nov 18, 2005 - 1:36 AM -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

You can buy them cheaper new from ebay by the way. That sucks too. I figure if your selling it for that much, you must have paid a good bit for it. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy

i had venom 400 before my gt28 and safcii. all it does is make your car run richer when your throttle signal is above 50%. it helps a tiny bit in higher rpms, but not much for an st or gt. if you get an safc ii and dyno, you could probably tune out 5 or so hp for a stock gt.

I'm worried about the avalibility of a shop that could help me out. There aren't many in my area, if any. With the intake and exhaust mods, do you think I'll pick up a little more than 5 maybe? Do you have a full exhaust to match the header?
The intake, exhaust, and flywheel wont really effect the ECU. Its mapped based, so it can tell what air pressure your bringing into the motor. The exhaust just helps the motor run more efficiently, and the flywheel theoretically reduces the drag to reduce drivetrain loses. For a NA motor, you've pretty much hit the basic performance parts. I dont think ingition or fueling mods would gain very much without some internal engine modifications - cams and adjustible pulleys, valves, pistons, etc.... something to get more air into the cylinders. -------------------- Scott

a GOOD tune with the SAFCII can net you around 8-10whp or so.
