I tried in vain yesterday to remove the shift nob on my A/T shifter and could not get the bastard off. I need to get access to the neutral safety switch before it drives me nuts. HELP.

That cavalier lacks all the electric over drive crap. That is what is holding me up. The neutral safety is a little happier as of lately but not by much.

When I removed the auto shift knob I had to cut the O/D wire, seems like there's no other way to do it.
Just cut it and rewire it when you install it... |

It's really not much of work to remove the automatic shift knob ...
1. Start the car 2. Put on e-brake before car rolls anyway / Put the car on 1st gear 3. Turn off car / Won't be able to release key 4. Check front of the automatic shift knob for 2 small screws 5. Remove the 2 small screws 6. (Hard Part) Over drive button (Pull out the over drive little switch button) 7. After removing the switch cover you'll see the made source of over drive button 8. There is a little screw which is holding the source of the over drive button / Remove the little screw which is holding the source of the over drive switch 9. Remove the shift knob (In my case it just came out W/O any problem) If your looking to put a different automatic shift knob, just relocate the over drive button with a on & off switch where you could turn off & on when ever you want to. |
