I like it, I want it, neons are a nice touch, and I dont think they are ricey because people don't put it on looking for horsepower, they put it on because it looks clean.

Man, I can't believe this many people like the stuff. I think Phat's Celica was the only one I've ever seen with it that I was okay with. That's just because the rest of the car was done so well that it was kind of a neat touch. I absolutely hate them on cars that are stock or close to stock. To me, it sceams "I love Fast and Furious." Bottem line, it has to be a real show car and there has to be a lot other things done to it before these look alright.
I'm a little close minded sometimes, so my opinion in exterior styling probably shouldn't be taken seriously. I know I think different.

I like em a lot! But I'd never get it for my car tho... Only because they're glass and they break real easily...

I want like a tourquiost mixed with blue... Like for example... The blue be up in front and back, and the tourquoist be under the side skirts... I've seen double colors like that and it looks so cool But... Never will happen sadly...

Me too. I don't mean to offend anyone but some of the stuff people do to cars (I've noticed especially on here) is just almost...tasteless. Like half the people on here have the invader kit, then neons, huge wings, etc. I give props to everyone for doing custom work to your car, but I think the market for kits and parts is just poor. Who designs some of this stuff?

I guess I'm just more for a close to stock appearing car with a monster of an engine underneath, but then again that's why I'm getting out of the Celica scene.

On topic though, neons are just like an attention grabber if you're trying to hang with street racers IMO. It's like "hey my car isn't fast enough so just look at these!"

A car doesn't have to be fast to have underglow. Its called show. And i'll have a 3s swap done by june hopefully cause my exterior will be done this winter and interior almost done. So i don't really care what people think for only being 18 right now i got a lot of stuff done to my car then some younger people then me don't so i feel privaledge and them younger people i hope get there things they want done

cough 140$ pointless CAI are rice too....cough...cough....

now underglow if cordinated to the color of the car and the car is low enough to get a decent glow on the ground and you can not see any tubes then by all means cause if done right it adds a total level of attitude to the car...i run underglow and love them....in my first body kit i had it so my front end was back lit and it looked like my car was pissed off to no end..and i loved it

Yeah, your right, they do that. But fellow Japanese car owners will call you "rice" if you have neons. They are sort of a cross over point when you say, "Hey look at me, I want to be cool." They are fads. There has been many different fads in car manufacturing over the years. Bottem line, a timeless design is a smooth subtle look were nothing really jumps out at you, the car just looks good.
EDIT: Some will argue that neons are part of this smooth design. They are more than intitled to their opinions.

There is a turbo Eclipse running around my town here that has a cheap yellow paint job, big vinals on the hood and sides, big scoop on the hood, aluminum wing, stock wheels, bad sounding exhaust, and a fiberglass body kit that looks like he's hit the curb once a week with since he's gotten the car. Even though his car is regertably faster than mine, I feel it is justifide to call him a "ricer."

I voted yes, but i agree that there has to be alot of other things on the car for the lights to look okay, i mean, all they are meant for is to accent the vehicles better points. If you over do it with the lights, then it just looks stupid and you should kill yourself.

ok wait, im having trouble understanding this... if properly installed underbody neons with a nice glow is rice... then your "office lighting material" clear turns, "eTurbo", chrome intake, and yellow wire loom... what would we call that? We should make a poll about it. I'm j/k snapshot. don't take it to the heart. your car looks good and i learned a lot from your sh!t on the suspension forum. just felt like taking a shot at you... i had nitrous oxide with no other mods once. lol. purging... it looked real good tho so it wasnt rice.

yea i agree with you on that one In "MY" opinion i think its all about how your car is presented. i think we all know when neons have been setup right or not. I dont think its fair to call all neons rice and say that anyone who has em is a nobody just trying to be cool, but if ya really think about it why do we shell out so much money into bodykits and rims etc.

I put a 3sge or 20v 4age in my car and build it, and if somewere in there I put exhaust on, I'm a ricer? My CAI doesn't make a noticable difference in noise, it's in the fender. Ram air intakes are the ones that make noise.

Someone once told me. A fast car that looks slow is worse than a slow car thal looks fast. but then on the other hand I have also been told that slow cars when look fast are ricers and fast cars are too hard to spot anyways.

If you had a mustang, yes the one with loud exhaust.. the one that has the deep rumble that creeps inside your chest as it passes by.. the one that you can barely see as it zooms by.. as a matter of fact you are like.. eh thats a mustang.

Then you see my (now old car) and it has a slow motion entrance.

Those of you that seen it inperson may or may not agree but living here in a college town of 60000 students I get to "cruise" at 25mph and everyone , just so happens to turn their heads as my car passes by with led kit and my dragon and my rims and all the other things my car had. Whether they do or they dont like it... they ALWAYS look in my car in slow mo... and I see it happen since 2003 5 times per day twice per day. That tells you a-your car is being noticed and b-you feel good about it

Now I put all my mods to make my car look like I want it.. not some guy in florida, not some guy who complains about ricer cars and lives off coast of Africa.. I do it for me because I get a rush of happiness everytime I see my car. It makes me feel good because of all the time and effort I put into my car pays off. There is nothing better then getting appreciation from antique chevy driver and receiving a compliment on how nice my car looked.

I have them and I would recommend them to any driver who has some body work done. if you are driving a stock celi with a neon kit.. it may look a bit weird but if you zoom by someone and have a kit on then people are like: "darn kids" and you kan feel yourself laughing cause you know you feel like a gangster.

I didn't quote the rest bc we all know what it said and I didn't want a huge quote in my post lol. I totally disagree with this intro statement but that's because I come from a background of building and racing sleepers rather than leaving my car stock in the performance department and adding a bunch of weight-adding bodykits and neons etc I would rather make it fast. To me and my friends who build cars, we would rather have a car that can smoke half the stuff on the road but still look really slow. Let's use my friend's 5.0 Mustang for example. Looks all stock, even down to the wheels. Yes it's in good shape but it looks all stock and sounsd no different than a stock motor with flowmasters. But under the hood he's got a 383 stroker, racing cams, etc etc etc and can run in the 11-12 second quarter miles all day long. Our satisfaction comes when a car that is that fast wants to race thinking they can win and get their doors blown off because there was no way they could know that car was fast.

I guess in my opinion guys like you who cruise through placse looking for people to look at their cars are just attention whores. There's a guy in town here with an early 90s Dodge Caravan that cruises just like you do, he's got chrome wheels, a ricer muffler, neons, etc and he gets just as much positive and negative attention as you do. People cruising for attention like that are just a joke IMO but to each his own

What about people who enter their ride in car shows? I've a million magazines that show pics of car show winners who have neons, body kits, painted dash inserts, etc. When you win a couple g's at a car who gives a crap if some people call you rice.
