What color are you painting your dash pieces? And what kind of paint are you using?

dont touch the air bag cover! Now I might be over reacting, but I think you have to disconnect the battery, otherwise the airbag could set off and brake your nose, or worse. And it is very expensive to replace. I think your best bet it to have a dealership take the cover off (if it can be done) and then paint it. Noe obviously I bet the deale will say we are not responsbile if the air bag goes off or is damaged. Just my 2 cents.

Well, think about something hitting your face full of air at like 100-200 MPH. Ouch! So, expensive for your nose. Then think about having to get a new airbag thing put in, I've heard that can be really expensive as well.

Hey what other products did you use besides paint? This is how I am going to do mine:

1. sand plastic
2. spray primer
3. spray duplicolor paint (2 or 3 coats)
4. spray clear coat

Is this what you are doing? If not, please let us know!

the airbag is vinyl too, you'd have to use vinyl dye, not spray paint, otherwise it will look awful. if you want to get it off:

unplug the battery
remove the airbag fuse
get a craftsman torx 60 bit from sears (i got 2 cheap ones at autozone and they broke)
pop the side covers off on the steering wheel (in between the spokes)
unscrew the torx bolts, they don't come all the way out
carefully!!! remove the airbag, you may need to pull the sides of the wheel case out to make sure the torx bolts are all the way out
unplug the harness

dye. don't clearcoat it, just dye it.

reverse to reinstall.

If you're interested, my manual tells how to disconnect the airbag stuff. Let me know, and I could scan in the instuctions.

Pics are up, they look white, but are metallic silver and came out great. Working on the rest of the center console bottom and the doors are next.

That leads me to this question. On the doors, there is one screw by the hinge and 2 other circular thingy's on the side of the door holding the plastic on. How do i get those thingy's to release without busting them? biggrin.gif

you don't, unless you have the toyota tool... a lot of these little clips aren't designed to be taken on and off many times, maybe once or twice and they need to be replaced.
