So the other day I was driving in traffic for 3 hours in the rain, when I noticed that my battery light was coming on. I eventually pull over and check everything out under the hood, everything seems to be ok. Then when I go to start the car it barely turns over, but it starts. I NOTICE THAT WHEN I TRY TO HOLD THE RPMS AT A CONSTANT RATE OVER 2000 RMP, THE CAR SEEMS TO DROP DOWN ABOUT 200 RPM THEN GO BACK UP (SEE VIDEO).

Today I went to autozone and they hooked me up to their electrical diagnostics (as I had suspected my alternator was bad), and they found that I was putting out alright voltage, but I was only making .8 amps(!), so I replaced my alt, and my car is still doing the same thing with the reving.

WHATS GOING ON HERE?

Sorry for the bad quality (cell phone)

Tried resetting ecu many times, checked all fuses, battery is 3 months old and is an optima.

DID you check your connections make sure nothing is lose or rusted or has acid build up... .check your coil and rotor ...

never rest your ecu untill you have fixed the problem .. cause it will only come back ...

Well the thing is i never got a CEL, so i assumed there is no code. I'm pretty sure all the obvious connections are solid. You mean just check the connections for the coil and rotor? Or can I test it somehow to make sure its working properly?

the light dosnt always come on . the ecu has 2 types of codes, soft codes, that just get stored inside the ecu, and hard codes that throw the light and stay on.

dont reset the ecu, and have the codes checked. if its obd1, you can check them on your own, but if its obd2 you can take it to autozone and have them pull the codes with a reader for free.

running on a bad alternator for long can fry the battery no matter how new it is. My suspicion is that you need a new battery.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I read somewhere that a battery light is a sign that your alternator is going out and not your battery! Manufacturers do this on purpose because if they had a picture of an alternator most people would not know what it is!
