just a couple quick questions... and i know everyone is going to say swap the engine, which i am going to do, eventually, but for now i want to make it a little quicker for my girlfriend.

basics, a 1994 celica GT, auto, 5sfe, and slow....

i am looking into converting it to a manual now, trying to gather and research all that info as the auto just plain sucks on this car.

top end -> i've searched and didn't find any info on anyone here that actually did a full port and polish on the intake manifold. i only found out that they are extremely restrictive and no on really modifies the 5s engine for NA purposes. portmatchin and polishing th intake, and possible throwing on a ported TB, or possible swapping out the TB, i have a spare 7mge TB from a 4runner project. i will be TIGing up set of headers for her and doing a mandrel bend 2.5"exhaust.

Electronics -> i can't find any info on aftermarket ECUs for the 6cs. i am used to the VW world right now were i can simply plug it into my laptop and remap everything. and i missing something here, or should i go with a piggy back unit?

Cheap -> is there a company that makes pulleys or other cheap modifications around the $200 mark?

most of the work i am going to do myself, except for the actual machine work, like boring and honig the cylinders of the 3sgte, decking the block and head, etc. all the porting/polishing will be done at my garage, so i wouldn't consider it a waste of money, since it is just my time...

please could i have some feedback and info on my thoughts?

overall goals of the 5s engine is only around 180-185 hp
3sgte we are going to try and get 300hp using a spare gt28r71 from the VW project. i'm now eyeballing a gt 35!

Easy answer... the 5SFE is NOT an n/a performance motor. It'll take too much work and money to make it come even relatively close to being a performance n/a motor. Nothing you do to the head is gonna make significantly more power... because the head doesn't breathe on its own. The bottom-end is also a weak spot. How do you make n/a power with a 4 cylinder? You rev it. The 5SFE bottom-end is poorly suited for revving and breathing at high rpms. There are no drop-in tuneable chips for toyotas. They use a different chip system and aren't flashable or easily chippable. Finally... realize 180-185hp out of a 5SFE n/a is very unrealistic. Let me rephrase that... it's nearly impossible without completely redoing everything.
