as long as you use fuel injector cleaner like every other oil change you should be okay. on the otherhand if you've never run the cleaner through them they can get seriously clogged and you'll have to get them manually taken out and cleaned.

hope that helps.

If you normally use high octane fuel, that will help quite a bit to regularly clean the injectors. I put in 93 octane every time I fill up. I've never had a problem with my injectors.

From what I've read you are wasting your money putting in 93 octane. You might get a slight performance increase, but I don't think 93 octane in the end will make any difference in the life of your engine, most gasolines have detergents added. What I try and avoid are gasolines with methanol added (corn byproduct). That stuff in my opinion will gum up an engine, though it reduces emmissions. I like to use valvoline SynPower line of fuel injector and fuel system cleaner but its wa more expensive compared to penzoil's prodcuts.

I heard this morning on the radio that if you buy 1 bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner at AutoZone, you can get a second one free or something like that. It may have been that for 2 bottles you pay 3.99. Either way, its a good deal.

I've heard that you're supposed to clean em every 3,000 or 6,000 miles. But if thats true and you're supposed to do it that often, I'd say its pretty important. Definately can't hurt your gas milage (?sp) tongue.gif

I have a 93 Prizm (Corolla Twin - 16 Valve 4A-FE BABY!) and my car was idling really rough and while driving it, if i got on the throttle too fast the car actually went slower haha. Anyway me and my pa unplugged the harness from each of the injectors individualy and one of them didnt cause the engine to bog down any more than it already was when it was plugged, while the other 3 did slow down the idle. I was on my way to Goodyear to have it checked it out and have the injectors cleaned (100 dollar service) when I decided to stop at a auto place and try the STP fuel injector cleaner in the black bottle. I poured it in and started the car up and it was idling rough and the engine hesitated when i got on the gas, but I revved it up slowly to like 5000 rpms and kept on it for about 15 seconds, slowly let off and then let it idle. It idled perfectly and I went for a drive. Every stop light I stomped the gas and she purred and got right up and went man. I was never a huge believer in gas additives but this stuff worked haha. Saved me $97.50.

(p.s. I had 5 gallons left in the tank. Directions say one bottle treats 21 gallons biggrin.gif )

If you buy 93 for performance, yes ur wasting ur money, but it does help keep the engine "extra" healthy. It helps prevent knock, and the engine will burn cleaner and more efficiently off of it, but keep in mind our ECUs were designed for 87.

dude...you wont get knock on regular gas unless your timing is off or other stuff is wrong. These cars are designed to burn regular gas to its full extent.

I think i got the point... You shouldnt be knocking if everything is right. You can cover pinging and knock sometimes though with high octane gas. But you are just covering up a problem.

I try not to buy 93 or 94 octane here, many refineries add ethanol to gasoline, but for regualr 87. I remember driving across the U.S.. and there were a few areas where 87 was more expensive than say 91 becuase there was no ethanol added and thus the price was more.

This is a huge myth! Will it not die!!

Higher octane only means that the fuel can take more pressure before exploding. This is why it is used in high compression engines.

If your car is knocking you have something else wrong with it, unless it was designed for higher octane fuel.

87 is better for your car.

Gt's take 89 and st's take 87 octane.
