First I hope this is the correct category to post this.
General Info…. Just getting into the 6 generation Celica’s, I now have two. One is a 95 ST for a few months and over the weekend I bought a complete 94 hatchback GT Celica 5-speed that needs some motor work and a complete JDM 3sgte with all-wheel drive tranny with 32k on it. I have a tone of parts for the 3sgte that the guy gave me, wiring harness, ECU, Spare turbo, Factory service manual all the air intake for the motor and Alternator plus two or three boxes full of parts. I have some general questions that I am thinking about before I get into all this. 1. How much is the complete 2.2 that need work with a 5 speed tranny worth? ( I am not total sure what is wrong with it but wanted to know a decent price because I am wanting to sell it as a whole) 2. How much is an all wheel drive tranny worth in good shape? Is there any demand for these? 3. What year of the 5 speed v-6 Camry tranny should I be looking for? How much is a good price? 4. What all should I do to the 3sgte before I install it in the car? Thank you in advance, I have been looking through this site for a while and it all looks awesome lots of great info. I am now looking to get started and wanted to get to know some people on here incase I get in trouble along the way. I have searched but I would like to know more about why the tranny from the Camry is so much better? What clutch should I get? Stuff like that. I am located in Knoxville, TN if anyone is close maybe we can get together. Thanks again, Chris -------------------- |

for the all-trac tranny, post up a For Sale topic at Alltrac.net. Great place to sell and buy 3sgte stuff. As for the camry tranny being better...all i know is it has higher gearing than the turbo version tranny found in the mr2's and its already set up for fwd. I don't think that version ever came in LSD tho...hmmm. I dont know much about the install...probably very similar to the mr2t tranny swap tho. There was a member awhile back that had a solara v6 tranny with his 3sgte swap that was revving to 9k since that e153 version has dual synchros from what i've heard. You might wunna search for him and PM him for some info.

About the tranny I am not sure how much to ask, Make me an offer and I will do some research to see what they go for. Dang I was just through maryland this weekend, I got the car in Jersey. I will try to find the member with the v-6 solara tranny and see what they have to say. Thank you all for your help. Chris

Well I bought the car from a guy in Jersey for $600, The car is complete but missing a headlight, I got the motor with tranny, wiring harness, ecu, spare turbo, tons of parts from a guy in atlanta, If i told you how much I paid for it you would be mad!! I have 2 celicas one running one almost, a 3sgte with all the goodies and I have less than $2k in it all. I have been lucky at catching stuff before it gets alot of attention and finding all the parts I need.

Well last night I got the all wheel drive tranny off and most of the wiring harness off of the 3sgte. I also began taking the 2.2 out of the car. The wiring is going to be nuts, I never really paid attention to all the wiring details on these cars before. Oh well got to learn sometime!!

Wow... you're just jumping into this. Good luck. Do some research on the site for some parts that you might not have. Keep us updated.
P.S. Where did you get the info that the V6 tranny was the best option? |

Will keep you posted!! I thought that the V6 tranny was a little stonger and had some better syncros?!?! in the tranny. Is this incorrect? If so what would you recommend? Thanks for the heads up,

Thanks for the heads up, Chris well the v6 solara tranny has dual synchros which is alot better. i think the v6 camry trans is basically the same as the mr2t with higher gearing on top gears from what i hear bboy -------------------- ..(formerly daily driven) 3S-GTE powered celica currently set @ 12psi.. |

So sticking with the tranny that is currently in the car will be fine for now? What is the tranny that comes in the GT 5-speed? Thank you all again for all your help!!!
Oh one more thing, are most of the 3sgte guys running headers? I have seen some post saying stay away from certain ones, Does anyone have a personal recommendation? Thanks Chris -------------------- |

The stock transmission used in the 5-Spd GT would be the S54 transmission. Its been used by many swappers, and as long as its in good condition it can withstand the abuse of the 3SGTE's power pretty well.
As far as headers, theres been alot of speculation that the ones made by SS Autochrome for the 3SGTE arent made durable enough to not crack from heat or the weight and stress from the turbo. Only time will tell how true this is, but if you have any doubts then stock will do just fine. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

Ok then I will probaly stick with the S54 transmission!! I think that I am going to go ahead and get a header, I will just keep the stock one just in case. I almost have the 2.2 out so all the fun should begin soon!!! Now my big problem is the wiring. Thanks again for all the help!!

Bank problem, I had a student loan and I forgot to check some damn box and they told me I owed like 2k now or i would have to drop out. I think it is all cleared up now and my buddy sold his turbo car and bought a bike so I am all alone. I think I am going to take it off the market though i sold the red ST. I did take the 2.2 out and I have the wirring harness off and ready to be shipped to you!!! I think I am going to keep her 90%.
