Confessions, 5sgte Options

I really want to do a 5sgte as there is a possiblity i have access to a free 5sfe, theres a 3sgte head with cams, plemuth and everything else one ebay, i already have the trubo for it, and i already have some of the fuel management to make it run. Having another engine allows me to just have it sitting on an engine stand and work on it when i get pistons, rods, ect, And time

The dilemma:

I dont have to much MONEY lol

BUT MOST OF ALL
the HP numbers ive seen discussed on the mr2 boards as well as others are of over 400 whp. This really doesnt suit me as my car is a daily driver, i dont do any street racing or track racing, im not sponsored and I dont neeeeeed all that HP, although it would be nice to have.

Plus im only 21 but im 22 this year and next year im 23, which by that time would i really want or have the use for a +400 whp car???? and would i really be happy that i spent all that money in the engine when it could have gone to something like a house payment later on???

Plus lets not forget everything else other then engine related things that i would need for a +400 whp car i would want a diff tranny, LSD, axles, and clutch + id probably want to swap out that ct26 for a larger turbo.

Anyway i just wanted to come here and vent my feelings about me, my car, and a 5sgte.

well this type of project aint cheap, so if you dont have much money to throw at it, it probably not for you.

you i use to believe this..if ur going in a straight line..yes, but if you are die hard about autox and stuff, i personally believe fwd=rwd. u just have to be deicated enough to find the best tire and wheel combo and the best suspension set up u can

well your not going to get 400hp just from a 5sGte. to make that type of power you will need turbo, fuel, and ecu upgrades. you can reach that goal on a normal built up 3sgte if you really want that power.

If you dont have a LSD and a good standalone TCS (like Racelogic) or built in a AEM stand alone ECU (both major $$$$) There is just no point. Like urbandork said he lacks the money for that kind of stuff. Thats why i said that 400+whp has no use in a FWD. Yeah if you spend like up to 10k on the car for tyres/suspension/ecu/tcs then maybe.

you guys make me feel less gulity for not buying up that 3sgte head and starting up the 5sgte build.

I guess im very happy with my 5sfte for now until it blows in which ill either get it back to stock and sell it or put a 3sgte in it.

But for now im satisfied with the magical noise my car makes inbetween shifts.

if i were you i would just ride out the 5sfTe untill it blows and then do the 3s swap. i know its a common thing to say, but the 3sgte will be a nice upgrade from the 5sfTe and will be an easy swap compared to trying to build a frankenstine motor. once u do that, youll always be a turbo upgrade away from making more power (if u want it)

I totally agree. I actually think that more than 300 whp in a FWD is nearly pointless for something that is driven on the street.

500 hp is fun if you can get it to the floor. I had 687 HP in a truck (2JZ-GTE) alot of fun...
