Story goes:

Saturday, March 20th, i was driving to a friends house on a highway, an Acura Integra GSR speeds up and rides my ass for about a mile or so. (not rush hour, roads are completely clear) I figure he wants to race. I know that the GSR has 180hp, while my stock celica is 140hp. So i didnt even bother. He just went into the left lane, and flew past. Then it got me thinking. I have a 1995 Gt, with an auto tranny. The car just passed 68,000 miles. I want more power out of the car. I figure the easiest way (and by no means easy) is to turbocharge my current motor. I figured i make about 200whp, like P2, But after further investigation, he has a ct27 turbo, while most run ct26, and they make est 180 to 185. I dont want to break speed records or nething nuts like that, its not gonna be a track car, its gonna stay a Daily Driver. (thats a big deal, a daily driver) Im just concerned about the reliablity of the 5sfe tubrocharged. (considering P2 is the onlyone that has a 5sfte that hasnt had anything major happen to it. hes also one of the only ones that has had it for quite sometime.) everyone besides him has seemed to have issues with gaskets and popping motors. So the simple solution to that would be, swap a 3sgte in. (again, the decision is easy, not the work) And money isnt a problem, i have 7k laying around collecting interest in the bank.

Currently my knowledge base is little or none. So im giving myself a year to learn and make a final decision on what i wanna do. I just want some others thoughts on this idea.

ok, opinion time, and the reason for this thread:

What would you do, if you had a 1995 Gt, auto with 75,000 miles (my mileage estimate by may '07)?

and after voting, plz make a note of y u chose what u chose.

i think you should leave your engine alone, if anything swap to manual.
Reason: you = a 'tard.
the end.

In all honesty we talked about this already and you know my reasons. I don't feel like repeating myself all over again. MAYBE go with the turbo.

3sgte w/ manual conversion all the way.

First of all.. the 5sfe is not a bad engine at all... it's "Perky" and with the auto tranny it's a great looking daily driver. But it's just so damn sexy/sporty for it to be an automatic. The 3 years that I've owned her, it seemed like I was lacking something.

But when you push the the 5sfe, it just doesn't deliver... especially with an auto transmission.

I've just swapped in a 3sgte into my car replacing my 5sfe and automatic transmission. Now it's a manual on top of that the 3sgte powerhouse.

It's literally scary fast... I'm scared to driver her right now... and the car makes all kinds of noises... to name a few... the whinebro fuel pump, blow off valve, turbo spooling... loud exaust... it's definately not your normal commuter car anymore.

maybe look into buying a 2nd car as your turbo car and keep the celica as the daily driver?

i'll agree with that.

or check out the 5sgte's on mr2oc, the 3sgte head is a direct fit to the 5sfe block. you'll need pistons and rods of equal strenght to those from a 3sgte tho.

if your not REALLY into performance (along with the maintenance that goes hand in hand with it) i wouldnt suggest either a turbo OR a swap. besides your super healthy 5SFE still have along way to go...maybe wait 'til its time to get a new engine to either swap or rebuild w/ turbo?

edit: forgot to vote...3SGTE w/ manual conversion -> cuz it roxx lol

id like to state this is the most backward vote to actual choice. U say to keep the car how it is, until i needs a rebuild, or until it craps out. But u voted for me to put a 3sgte in it by may of 07?

care to explain?

Its cuase it is an expensive option either way. You are going to have to save some serious cash to get either done properly. The 5sfte is a decent choice, but there is a lot of work to make sure you don't blow something. 3sgte isn't much easier than the 5sfte, but its meant for boost.

SInce you are waiting till next year to do something just wait. Save money now and then make the decision. Do research. Read about the problems that people have had with the 5sfte.

SInce you have a faily good engine, I think people are saying wait till a rebuild cause when that happens you can rebuild it to how a 5sfte should be when it has to be done. ANd it has to be rebuilt anyway.

sure...my first paragraph is just a little advice. your engine is still real healthy with plenty of mileage to burn and from your original post it doesnt seem to me for some reason that youre really into performance (could be wrong). anyway thats just the "vibe" i got from your first post. i'd vote 3sgte over 5sfte anyday just because the motor was built for boost...not that im saying theres anything wrong with a well put together 5sfte

voted 5sfte with manual since the motor is still low miles and its a waste to just take out the 5sfe.
