Hi,

My power antenna at the last inches of extension makes horrible noises like
it is stuck trying to extend - real bad and loud. Any ideas howto fix it?
Thanks!

thats exactly what mine does. and sometimes it wont go down by itself either, it'll just make that noise... it needs a little push when that happens

i took it out to try and figure out the problem and theres a little piece of the end missing from the plastic thing that pulls it down

get a new one or live with it...theres not much else you can do.

im just going to disconnect the motor [one of these days] so it stays down, i never liked that huge thing sticking up all the time anyway

hope that helped biggrin.gif

That same thing happened to me a whle back ago. It also happened to my mom's camry as well.

My fix was ripping out the power antenna, disconnect the power cable and install an s2k antenna. My moms fix was trading her car in for a lexus. I think others here with the same problem installed a new motor.

Or you can just replace the antenna mast, the thing that extends, the antenna itself. smile.gif

yeah its not the motor...that obviously works since your hearing it

you could just replace the antenna mast and plastic thingy

but i like the trade for a lexus idea...that works too, do that laugh.gif

yeah it sounds like the plastic piece inside broke, mine broke right in the middle so it wouldnt even try to go up or down, the replacement part for it was 47.79. i just replaced it two days ago, so if you need help doing it, i can explain it while its still fresh in my mind.

The mast itself is metal, but there is a long plastic part that has teeth in it that the motor uses to raise and lower it. Mine was broken in half when I bought the car so it would go up halfway then make this grinding noise..

I recommend replacing it with an aftermarket antenna. Check my reply on this thread for details. See end of post for part numbers and brands.

My celica is having the exact same problem. It's pissing me off. I have to help it raise and lower the antenna. I'm just planning on replacing it with an S2000 antenna soon.

also my radio gets really bad reception could this be part of the problem or would that be a totally different issue? the antenna is stuck in the up position but i get bad reception and i don't know why yet.

If it's getting bad reception in the up position it makes me think that something is disconnected or not grounded properly. Is your stereo after market or is it original? Have you ever worked on your antenna assembly before? I went through some antenna issues myself and when I finally just spent the 40 bucks to install the aftermarket one that I mentioned above it straightened everything out. I don't recommend replacing the mast because it's as costly as my entire new unit and the first time I replaced the mast it still was a little messed up and then it ultimately stopped working again not long after.

it's after market. I just picked the car up about a week or two ago and i don't think the person before me put the aftermarket antenna plug in it. a buddy of mine that i work with told me he had the same problem with his dodge stratus and then he bought an aftermarket plug attachment and it worked fine. also i decided to get the entire aftermarket assembly that you posted on your thread as it costs less than just the mast. thanks.

I'm using a black 9" antenna that is always up not motorized. Gets the job done and no more hassle with the oem antenna.

Is there a list of antenna's that work/look good on the Celi? I know the s2k swap, but are there any other options?

I've had this similiar problem. my antenna just makes a noise like its trying to go down but it doesnt move. you cant even push the antenna down, it just stays there. Actually how do you even take out the antenna??? is there a thread or how to do that? maybe i can fix it if i can get into it.
