Anyone serviced or replaced on while the motor was in the car?? Ours tossed the belt today and upon further inspection, it's become aparrent that the nut holding the pullen on the shaft is missing and the pulley wobbles around, which is why the belt got thrown.

Anyone have a pic of an assembled power steering pump sitting around or can furnish one for me?

Also, what is the thread/pitch of the bolt that I need for there???

hahaha got to love the post swap bugs.

its easy to work on that pump. you just have to jack up the car and undo all the engine plasitcs.

this will help:

Yeah, but it's just simple growing pains. I was afraid the motor had to be moved somewhat because it looks VERY inaccessable.

Specifically what I need is the thread size/pitch of the bolt that holds the pulley on. I can only pray that the dowel pin in the schematic that holds the pulley from spinning is still there.

Lagos, thanks for the killer link. That helps a TON!

Got it fixed. The pulley retaining nut simply must have been loose and spun off. The dowel pin was still present, the belt was off but fine. I got lucky and nailed the retaining nut size first try, for future reference it's a M12x1.25 nut.

Getting it on the shaft on the other hand......it was somewhat of a pain to get up there and free the pump enough to get the clearance, but I got-r-done. I'm on the fence whether or not it was good designing or blind luck, but when I tried to take the pump off to lower it and get straight at the shaft, the top bolt that holds the pump to the bracket (the one it pivots on) didn't have the clearance to come all the way out of the bracket, but was EXACTLY the right length to bump up against the frame and pull all the way out of the pump allowing it to come out. Who know?

Thanks for the help guys, it's nice to have power steering again. biggrin.gif
