I have a set of cams for it and a lightened flywheel. so give me the scoop please I never swapped a redtop in before but since its a 4age engine it should bolt up directly with no mods to the stock engine mounts (as long as its an st not gt). Did the redtop come with uncut/cut engine harness? If so than I would highly suggest contacting Dr. Tweak to do the wiring (even the swap if your close enough). Install the cams, change the t-belt and waterpump, add the flywheel and relube the engine. You would be good to go. GOOD LUCK This post has been edited by netrata: Jul 21, 2006 - 9:37 PM -------------------- |

I am in the process of doing the same head swap. There is a ton of info on the 7-age engine all over the place. I am getting new hks cams, new pistons, rings, 4-age ECU, valves, and new bearings. From everything I know about the 7-age it's supposed to be a very good high rev engine with better torque than the 4-age because of the bigger block. I should be done within about 8 months I hope(pending money situations). Let me know how yours turns out.

More power if you just swap the head of 7afe twith 4age to get 7age.

Yeah, swapping out the engine wouldn't really make sense if you have a 7-afe block available to you. You get a lot more bang for you buck if you just go with a head swap and do a 7-age. More low end torque, while keeping the rev ability for high end hp. Add some other mods and you'll be in business.

So what timing belt you gonna use ,and what about your coolant hoses there are a few issues you have to deal with yes the swap is straight forward but cam timing is a problem because of the taller block then you read TDS on the block you have to match your head to that. also a different crank timing gear
-------------------- yea your 3sgte is cool but ill stick to my 7agte

Actually the block wont be able to withstand constant long high revs such as the 1.6L block because of oil issues, but it does produce more power in the long run. |

It's not so much the oil issue (this isn't a Honda motor) as it is the wimpy 7A rods. It's that whole oversquared undersquared motor thing I go on about when people talk about building 5SGE's... look it up... ;] To swap a redtop... I'm gonna assume you mean smallport? You need the full engine harness, the ecu, all of the attached sensors, some detached ignition parts, and a lot of know-how in regards to wiring. Basically, you find diagrams for both and mesh the 4AG engine harness into the Celica body harness. Could be pretty easy or a nightmare depending on how different the engine harness is... but don't ask me... I don't do wiring.
