Is there any one out there who has a built up 5s? like all motor, no turbo, no super, just all motor? I know there was that one guy who put the ITBS and the SAFC on his, and didnt produce any thing special, but is there any good built 5s? Im thinking of building up mine. Doing a full port and polish job on the head, using either an F-Con or a SAFC2, use my headers i have now, make a full 1 peice cold air, and then im still deciding on what i wanna do for the lower end. Im just curious to see what some one else is doing with regards to this.

you wont get alot out of the 5SFE mainly due to its design, you can go nuts with it, by building it up with forged everything and raise the compression a bunch, but that engine's FE-head is just not designed for big horsepower.....i guess you could go with a 3SGTE or 3SGE head and get alot more out of it, perhaps with a standalone injection or go with complete power-fc....
maybe if you start with the GE-head and port/polish/rub the hell out of that thing you can def get far! rolleyes.gif

i know the oem heads cant handel hp, or high rpm. ive blown 2 up already. Hense why im gonna get mine blue printed. Like if i do this, im gonna go with completely re-seated valves, new valve guides, valves, springs, etc. Maybe see if can get some one to make me up/find somethin that fits for a cam gear, or just change the timing my self. Like this would be an extensive project

yeah, if you are gonna go at it like that i would look at eBay and see if you cant find a built 3SGTE head.....might be cheaper, i know i have seen some in the past on there that were 9000+ rpm & 800hp supported, might be interresting to look at....

jim snodgrass did a small build up back in the day, shaved & built head, 1 cam, and some tuning ect, and made 147whp.

::edit:: heres a full mod list and dynosheet.

also, keep in mind this is on an older (5th gen style) mr2 motor.
+15% for drivetrain loss = ~170hp & 175ftlbs @ the flywheel
