so i dont know if anyone else has noticed this, but in the pats database, there is a supercharger........now....msot ppl jsut laugh at you if you say ''i have a supercharger in my celica'' or in any foreign car in general.....personally, i dont care, horsepower is horsepower.....but does anyone have that thing?

the rippmods one? if so yeah i have it. it's not installed yet my car is still in pieces. im pretty sure only me and madmods have it and i dont know where he is with his kit.

Yeah, I was thinking about mounting a Rippmod Supercharger on my ST by modifying the brackets and mounting holes. But then there goes the timing belt question. LoL.
I'm still thinking about going turbo because I "heard" you get more boost and power out of turbo. But as stated by nik stated, most people run turbos 8-9psi which is recommended for high mileaged cars. 11psi with a fresh new motor.
The only thing about turbo is that it doesn't start kicking it until it recieves enough air compression where as the supercharger uses the pulley and is powered throughout the overall rpm range. That is better for a 7A because of the low-end torque. And also, I quote this from Ripp Mod, "The RIPP SDS stage 1 kit will work with either automatic or manual transmissions and at 9psi will yield up to 227.3HP . This is up a full 112.3HP from the 115 (factory stock) without any other modification."
It's all stragety!

I think that's a bit optimistic on the hp numbers there. But it's still not a bad idea. I think it's good for the 5sfe, because it's at least a big motor. I think a 4age head swap is the best thing for a 7afe.

yea i had that dream once, of supercharging my 5-S...
but i have been in contact with ripp mods. They only made 18 of those kits and they had one left about 1 year ago, i called recently (as in 6 months ago) and they had sold it.:-( they also said that it has not yet to their knowledge been place on a celica, the guy who designed them has one on his camry, and i know fo another camry but never of a celica, they actually were willing to fit it for us if we brought the car up to NY for them, cuse they were not sure about hood clearnaces. But they never came back to us with a reply. So unfortunaltely that part should be removed from the database, because as far as i know that product is not longer available from them. just thought i would share that info with u guys.

You can still find some selling on ebay but I don't trust ebay with turbos or superchargers. It might be a dupe so not everything is exactly the same. If you want a glance, here is the link.

Also from experience, my friend bought full turbo kit for his Honda Prelude on eBay for $500.00. We installed it and not even 20min later, the turbine blew up. I guess not enough oil while it was heating up? I don't know but the whole turbine was destroyed and literally blew up with a "Pow!" sound and smokes here and there.

I was thinking that... but then I wouldn't have the lovely low-end torque anymore. tongue.gif

Yeah, the price is ridiculous. $4,000 is just about right for a st205 clip.

a correctly sized turbo will make a flatter power band than a super charger, the turbo can hit its full 9psi by 3000 rpm, where as the super charger hits its full 9psi at redline. off throttle the turbo isnt spooled and is not making boost and never takes power from the engine, the super charger is always on and always creating a parasitic load on the engine regardless of wether or not you're cuising down the highway at 1/3 throttle in 5th gear at 3500rpm or if you're at WOT and nearing full boost at 6000rpm, its always drawing power to turn the impeller. for a large engine thats not a big deal, but something small like the 7AFE its alot more noticable.

i thought about supercharger before too.

I like the sc better than the turbo but if i think about the technical stuff, i guess turbo is the way to go (considering money too).
