This isnt one of threads where im like yay ^.^ turbo. nope.
i was heading on I-5 South to Portland, OR for a job interview. (im setting the scene) minding my own business, i have the stereo cranked loud and just cruising @ about 75 mph. so September 23rd @ 8:34 A.M. - i destroyed a rod, the weak point of the 7afe all i have to say is - thank god for AAA . They towed my car to my house, and i got a rental car to continue my journey and go thru-out my weekend. --Now, im car-less. I need a little help trying to find a replacement engine (preferably 7afe) not looking to swap for higher horsepower (ie 3sgte or 20v) I live in Northwest Oregon - and i've spent many hours looking and searching for something not rediculous priced like 1,500 for a 7afe . Any help is appreciated. -------------------- the 1/4 doesnt have patience for a ST.... so we make them ST-T's so atleast we'll sound good going slow.

I'll check the wrecking yards around here. I was at one last week that had an ST (at least I think it was). Most of them have front end damage so no telling what the engine is like. It wouldn't be too far to take it down to you on a weekend.

I bet Nix99 will help you. They got me a lot of my transmission swap pieces. They were a ltitle higher priced, but I got what I paid for. Quick service, and great, used parts. Some great guys to work with.

I stopped at Meridian Auto Wrecking in Puyallup today after work and they have a 7AFE sitting on the shelf. They didn't know the milage but the compression is 150. Scott Krueger is the guy I talked to and he quoted me $500. I mentioned that you're in Portland and he said that they have a truck that goes down there every day and he could ship it for free. Their number is 800-992-6756. The guy put a note in the computer under Dustin for the quote.
I tried to trade in an old International Harvester engine for it but they wouldn't take it, sorry. Let me know if I can help in any other way. |

I have to say I am some what surprised. Yeah yeah 7afes have weeeeeeek little rods, but was it turboed, old or not properly maintained? Toyota used little rods because the engine only puts out 100 hp. Little rods are lighter (less rotating mass) and for that hp they are more then strong enough. I read on your page that you have NOS so my guess is that was the cause of the prob and it weakened the rod. (you probably already know that though...)
If it were me and i wanted to continue using nos, just rebuild the engine and get new stronger rods or just one stock one to replace the busted one. These engines stock can take at very least 150 hp on stock internals. Still Nos is like a chick with std's ... This post has been edited by SpoonR530: Oct 19, 2006 - 1:53 AM -------------------- |
