Im asking anybody w/ an XBox. My XBox turns on fine, but won't open or close. I have no disc in there, but i can't get it to open/close. It whirs like its about to open, but then gets stuck and i dont know how to fix this problem. I really dont feel like getting a new one cuz i dont have the extra cash on me now. The XBox itself is fine, just the open/close function doesnt work. Anybdoy else have this problem or know what to do?

sounds like the tray is stuck, use a screwdriver to pry it open, gently...then spray some wd40 on the motor

Sounds like what happens at times with computer rom drives where the tray gets forced off the track due to wear, forceful closing, etc. Best bet is that if you don't really see yourself sending the xbox back to Microsoft, just open her up properly and make your way to the dvd-drive and start inspecting. Do this only if you feel confident in yourself to be able to disassemble and reassemble properly, there are guides as to opening up a xbox also if you'd like a link/search on Google.

look around for a small hole next to the tray. you can stick a paper clip in there to manually open the tray. if that doesn't work, you can take the xbox apart. it uses standard hex bolts. if there is a problem with your tray that you cant fix, you can buy a replacement drive for it on ebay for about 20bucks.

^, like lagos said, go for the emergency eject button first. (forgot about that. O.o)

I've opened an xbox before. It was the original xbox from launch and it started to act up so I bought a new one hoping I could fix the old one because I wanted to give it to my nephew, but it needed cleaning out regularly to function properly. Very easy to do.
