sadly, no... the 3s is a jdm engine which cali looks down upon. and the usdm mr2 3s is older than our celis so that's not good either. hopefully in a couple years i'll get a v6 swap done. or an imported st205 if that thread on here is legit.

Actually, yes they can be legal. If you have a 94/95 its easier to get a 94/95 engine (but those are expensive)
Frankly, get some holes drilled for your egr, visit cali state ref and they will certifiy your car smoggable (legally) then you have your paperwork, then strip that stuff out and your back in your power range.

is it really legal as long as you get an EGR put on the JDM motor?

Hey, where in the bay area are you DippedInSauce? I'm in livermore

Yes it is, if u make the motor legal chp will sign off on it, they will also give u a peice of paper showing the motor is legally yours (show a recipet for buying it) and so if u get pulled ovewr and ur VIN on ur engine doesnt match the VIN on ur chassis u wont have a theft issue. Thats what my friend did for his motor swap, but for me. Hope it helps.

livermore huh? your near rickyB and turbohoses lucky lol.

hmm, so how hard/expensive is it to make it legal? besides an EGR what else do you need?

ha ha, mine needs some work too. I'd be emberrassed to show up to a celica meet in it's current state. in fact, unless the meet were in front of my house or I pushed the celica there, it wouldn't make it to one in it's current state... *sigh* just counting down the days for the new clutch to arrive...

hmm, according mr2oc.com, RickyB lives in cupertino, which is a good hour away (assuming you don't hit traffic) which I suppose is still relatively close. I couldn't find any pics of his car in my quick search of mr2oc, but if I did, I'd tell you if I've seen it driving around somewhere or not. probably not though.

holy crap! I didn't know there was a place like that so close to my house! it's really only like a mile from my house! and according to their website, they have a dyno there, guess I know where I'm going when/if I do my 5sfte set-up

yes turbohoses has a dyno, rickyB (who helped make the plug and play nemesis for the 3sgte) does the tuning, very conservative he wants big power but for stuff that doesnt require any extra work.
