Hope this helps. Click on thumbnails for bigger pics
Mine is a 98 Celica which came with the normal speaker system (just a pair of in door speakers). It is an 8 inch door mount with a 6inch~ speaker in it(with metal bracket to fit 8inch). Most aftermarket speaker would be 6.5inch therefore you would have to do some work to get the speaker in. The best method would be to use MDF wood.(medium density fiber(?)). You want a solid mount therefore dont bother with things that are not solid. You could also use, plastic cutting boards as they are very solid. All you need is a jigsaw and a drill. Remove the factory speaker mount. Trace it on the MDF for the outline. Also trace the hole required for the new 6.5" speakers. Then, take the jigsaw to it and cut out the holes. Next, line up the holes and drill them out for the screws to mount onto the factory mount and you would be done. Here are pictures for easier understanding: I have fitted a speaker with an 84mm depth without problems using a 12mm MDF spacer. 18mm MDF would make it hard for the trim to go back on. It is also wise to cut the plastic around the door speaker grill to allow more depth. You will know when you see it, it is just a rim around the grill on the underside of the trim. Pictures: going out now, will give more details tonight. This post has been edited by soven: Nov 27, 2006 - 2:44 AM |
