103.1 Horsepower. 121.7 Torque max. It's a little small, but I wanted to keep the file size down. I was being dyno tuned. Installed I have a custom cold air intake, greddy sp cat-back exhaust, unorthodox underdrive pulley, and apexi s-afc. It's a 1997 GT Automatic with 47k on it. |

Please remember guys that the hp measure by manufactures is the hp at the flywheel.
at 10%-15% to that value to get the flywheel. Eitherway, alittle below 135 or so at the flyweel. Check your timing, fuel, plugs and so on. -------------------- West_Minist

Yea, the afc tunes the fuel, so that's optimized. The dyno guy said that he didn't want to advance the timing, because then I'd just have to adjust the fuel the other way. But maybe I'll get that done. My plugs look pretty new, I've decided not to replace them quite yet.
But it's sadly pretty much in line with other dynos of the 5sfe. To the wheels bone stock it's about 96 I'm told. And low horsepower engines aren't going to pull a lot out of bolt ons. But still... |

ngine Cylinders Displacement (cc) Type Horsepower Torque (lbs.-ft.) 5S-FE 4 2163 (2.2 liter) DOHC 135@5400 rpm1 145@4400 rpm As you can see, you should have 135 stock. Maybe w/ a drivetrain lost (let say 20%, if that much), that let you w/ 108hp. You car is a high torque engine for street travelling. You have something wrong. With very little kms, you should not be at 103hp. Again, your timing check (maybe @ 8 degrees advance) and check your plugs, electrical system. Set the afc to stock and dyno again for stock hp. Tune spark plugs, plug wiresand fuel regulator for more hp. Then use the afc. Right now, you are at a waste of money for lost hp gain. |

These are dynos for the 5sfe on mr2s. Lighter cars, manuals, and you can see the mods they have done and the horse they are pulling. Theory does not hold up in the face of reality. |

Weight doesn't make a difference on a dyno... ... ... does it?

No it doesn't... Weight difference is a factor in acceleration and other performance things, but on the dyno, it's all about the engine... |

Yes weight still matters, because the moment of intertia of the wheel is greater. Although, 200 lbs either way, isn't going to change anything. Well the point I am trying to make, is that numbers like a supposed percent loss through the drive train, isn't a good thing to go by. It is also different for every car. The new civic SI, loses less than %10 through the drive train.

I dyno'd my 7AFE yesterday, and it came with a surprising 129HP! I expected something like 115HP.

Well, something like 25HP is lost in the head of our engines. They aren't tuned for performance, more for fuel economy...this is coming from a guy that tuned his 5sfe so much and then ended up getting a 3sgte. He is the master of knowledge on our Celica's with the 5sfe...jhull over at toyotacelicas.com. That guy knows his stuff.

I don't know, all the dynos I've seen have major mods to break 110 for their 5sfe.
