I was helping my friend change a tire on his highlander, and he overtightened one of the lugs and snapped the stud off. The lugs are the same as on our celi's and me having a parts car, i was wondering if there was a way i could take a stud from my celi and put it on his car for him?

If that isn't a viable option, he is still under warranty at the dealer, will they fix it free?

and..... if they won't what do you think a mechanic would cost him to fix that?

Thanks

JC

I wouldn't replace a broken stud for old/used one. Get a new one from the dealer and replace it yourself. Shouldn't take more then 20 minutes to do so.

yes it is, go to a dealer (or a local auto parts shop, but most will dissown you for doing so). then take that wheel back off and take a strong punch and hammer the stud out pushing from the front. it should come out pretty easy being how new the car is. then just reverse the process for the new stud and make sure you see if the splines on the stud match the little grooves in the hole. (you will see what i mean if you dont already know). then tap the new stud back in and your good to go.

Anyone with a basic toolbox and a bit of logical thinking can do this.
