i just wanted to say that the consensus on boost being addictive is right... i thought i could fight it, but i just need "a little bit more" rolleyes.gif

most of you have seen the dyno sheet, and i was wondering what should i do from here? I will be getting a 3" custom downpipe and exhaust hopefully before the 17th (going to the track) but what should be next?

maybe some engine management?

mod to the turbo and IC? (or new ones?)

my goal is to get at least 40 or 60 more whp and I KNOW i will be satisfied then.

im open too suggestions! what have you guys done? or would do?

big intercooler, WI, injectors/or added fuel pressure to flow more fuel and 20 or so psi would be fun. thats a ct20b isnt it? that thing should be fine around 20psi. def get the downpipe and exhaust.

his car comes with 550s stock. no need for bigger injectors.

read this eastern... its for the 2nd gen motor but the basic theory applies to you too.

yeah it has 550s but doesnt it need them just because of the air flow capacity of the ct20b, aggressive cam and tuning?
if Toyota could of gotten away with a smaller injector they probably would have used it, right? thats what i thought at least.
I thought the 550s were used the same percentage as the 440s on a gen2,
that you could only add so much power before upping injector size, safc to add fuel or upping fuel pressure.
Im not to familiar with the gen4 characteristics though.
if you only want 40 or so thats only about 5 more pounds of boost if the turbo isnt already above its efficiency range.
what did you put down for numbers again eastern?

i put down according to the dynojet 266whp, looking for about 300-315whp

after you get your clutch fixed and broken in, and do your exhaust work, go back to the dyno. make sure you go to a dynojet again and get some real runs in that also log your a/f ratio from a wideband gauge. then you would have a better idea of where to go next.

the beauty of owning a turbo car, is that making more power on it is pretty easy. exhaust alone should give you around 20hp. then on top of that, you MIGHT be able to run a little more boost and get close to meeting your goal. for your motor, i would set your goal at around 290. thats very fast, and possible on your turbo

Yes I have the 5sfe tranny which is why the car is so quick considering its only at 6 psi but I like top speed stuff, so i wish it could hit 140-150 easy, like the cobalt.

Does the e-153 tranny have more top end?

Its 540cc iirc, and they will support your power goal, and then some. Intercooler, exhaust, intake, boost controller @ 17-18 psi, MAP clamp, and you should be reaching your goal. One thing to keep in mind - your system is map based therefore it will run leaner and leaner the more VE mods you do (exhaust, intercooler etc. ) and if you want peace of mind - then dyno it after each upgrade and see how you stand in terms of A/F ratio. Then you look at the chart - if you see dips due to running too lean due to retarded timing due to knock then surely install water/meth injection dyno it again. While you strapped down and you see that your running safe with h2o injection you might want to try an extra psi or two and see if you get a worthwile gain.
I say you are easly capable of ~300whp with that setup.

when i calculated my solara e153 on gear ratio calculator, turns out that on 21" tires and my 7500rpm redline i can go up to 163mph.... in vacuum smile.gif

yea E-153 tranny > the 5sfe tranny

i drove piros car....you shift too much and that tranny has annoyingly short gears.....i don't know how swappers do it but i would never consider the 5sfe tranny after that experience

but i'm not sure how much better the e-153 is...though it does have higher top end

mmm, well thats better, but if your like me you dont like hitting redline in fifth gear lol, at the most maybe 5.5K rpm, after that its just asking for problems:S but I suppose its beter to do 130 at 6K rpm with a e153
as opposed to 130 at 7200 rpm, that sounds like my next upgrade

BTW plyr, the gt tranny is accually quite pleasant, with a trd shifter, its really fun to drive with the short gearing:) but yes, the tranny is like that to accomadate the original underpowered motor so longer ratios are more appropriate for the 3s

i mean if you like being up in the RPM all the time i guess its pleasant...i'm just compairing it to my 1.8 turbo tranny....short gearing could have its advantages in some forms of driving but i think the motor could be better taken advantage of with a better suited tranny.. but this is just my personal opinion for my driving style and what i drive smile.gif i'm sure the 5s tranny works for those who don't cruise on the hwy much laugh.gif

Yea, im always in the curvy hills so i love the gearing, but its when I go out of town in the car that I wish it had top end:S

Also, about it being weak I disagree, its held the power for about a year and it never sticks or grinds:)

Not to mention that mr2 turbo tranny has proven to hold 400+ whp without breaking on many duces.
