17" Vs 18", Is it just me... Options

Is it just me or do 17"s just tend to look small? I've got the Eibach Pro Kit on my car and I'm going to be buying rims/tires soon, but I may change my choice from 17" to 18" just b/c I think 17"s look little...

Does anyone have any pics of lower profile tires than 215 pics w/ a 17" rim (possibly lowered)?
Does anyone have 18"s w/ lowered suspension pics?

Well thats a trick question.. of course a bigger rim will look better.. but practially its better to have a 17...

It also depends on the rims.. my Konigs looked small.. but my Focals look like they are 18's

I test fitted some 19x7.5 rims with 215/35/19 tires on my car yesterday and they looked crazy, but there was barely any room. It wasn't rubbing while I turned the wheels, but I'm not sure if it won't with bumps in the road, not to mention how rough the ride quality will be.

Though they looked amazing, I'm starting to get the impression a 17 with 225/45/17 tires would be much better.

Or maybe 18's with 40 series? I just don't know...

only on a lowered car do 18" look good, but id definitely get 17s or even 16s

I said 17" wheels, strictly because you cannot put a large enough tire around 18's to ride anywhere near what I would call "comfortable". I think the biggest you could go (I don't even know if it is possible) on 18's is a 40 series sidewall which, from my personal experience, is not that great. I think a 17" rim with a tire size of 215/45 R-17 is just right. It has enought sidewall to keep the ride comefortable and the little extra tire will fill the wheel well just as well as an 18" wheel would.

If you are going strictly for looks, 17's are WAY too small. The Celica's wheelwell is just too big. I think 19's are the best look, but you will get some rubbing if you are lowered. And those 17's in the first picture do look good, but that car is so low, the front bumper will scrape on everything.

i have 18's, they look nice, but look even better when someone pushed down the front of the car ti give a "lowered" look haha, im planning out a suspension, the ride isint too bad, i recommend 18's, but it depends on the style of wheel you get and also the type of driving/roads you drive on

I hate big wheels. 15s are more than big enough for our Celicas I think. But if you must go big, I think you can safely go with an 18inch. You can run a 205/50 18, or a 205/45 18 and be just fine. Of course 17's are going to be smoother, but you look like you've got a show car, so you might as well go 18.

a 45 tire will not fit in the wheelwells with an 18" rim. I tried it and you cannot turn the wheels past half way without rubbing. 40's work just fine and is what i run with on my 18's

agreed!!! this guy is totaly right!!! your car is very sharp and has a lot of nice mods, dont short yourself with some small wheels !!! brake some dough and go BIG!!! if you want to ride comefortable go buy a "beater" and rock it on the side...

At least 17 - preferrably 18 for looks. For handling I have some very lightweight Kosie 15s that came on the car from Japan and the car handles noticeably better on them

ZR, is your car lowered at all? I've got about a 1.5" drop so I just don't want anything to rub. Also, it really depends on the wheel, my buddy just bought 18" Enkei ZR2s and they look a lot bigger than they really are b/c of where the spokes end.

Is there a huge difference between 40 & 45 series tires? I like the low profile look but I really don't want an uncomfortable ride. Thanks everyone for your help!

The profile number is the % of the width for example 45 profile means the tyre depth is 45% of the width of the tyre.

I run a 215/35/18 & pretty low aswell but am looking to go to a 40 profile as i dented the rim with the current 35 profile elastic bands

Nope, my car isnt lowered yet.
The drop should be fine. I think it was about 2 inch gap.
You should be fine, depending the offset.
it shouldnt rub.
I'm happy with the 40 series tires.
Although my next tires I'll be goin wider 235

Lowered 35mm + 19" FTW, as previously mentioned its a rough ride, and u need superior quality lowering springs and shocks that pretty much doesnt flex at all

Anyways, it lookes wicked, my car is pretty much stock cept for 19", and lookin pretty sweet
