well from what i can tell your looking at alot more money spent on the turbo then if you just got the 3sgte engine.

The 5sfe engine is not close to turbo ready which alone will cost you alot of cash if you want to reach higher boost lvls, you need to buy an intercooler, boost controller, and im sure the list goes on and on.

From all the research Ive done the 3sgte has more then its far share of possible problems and obsticles but would still cost you less and give you more power in the long run.

i personally like the idea of the 5s-fe turbo .... expecially that kit since it runs a reliable 6-8 psi on no intercooler... it really gives the car a sleeper look smile.gif .. id just like to see more pics of peoples engines with the burien kit installed biggrin.gif

Heres a page on the basics of turboing the 5sfe, its interesting to say the least and I guess it could be less hassle then it seems. http://www.celica.net/faq11.asp

its all about personal preference.

stock for stock a 3sgte will be more reliable than a boosted 5sfe. one was built for turbo, the other was not.

the turbo kit is a whole lot easier to install.

thats why im going custom turbo for now. i would rather import a 1994 GT4 than swap in a 3rd gen 3sgte. i want to be unique, too many people are doing swaps. i want the real deal.

I actually put a ct-26 turbo from a supra on my 5s-fe and it was really easy and i did it with toyota parts from different cars and it did not cost me that much at all. I am very happy with the results and i am only running 6-7 psi and smoking everybody that beat me in races b4! Boost is the best feeling. I can help anyone thinking about doing the turbo without buying a kit. I did all my own work so I can tell you anything about it. Any questions....just let me know!

ok now this is just getting on my nerves! why the hell does it matter if people have done the swap? ive seen alot of poeple saying this latly that they dont wanna do it cuz they wanna be one of a kinda.

first off swapping a jdm motor will impress alot more people then strapping a turbo with a bunch of band aids to an N/A motor. does it matter that i did the swap when i whooped a VR4 ass on the freeway the other day. when he lost he probally thought, "well hes fast but he just did the swap he didnt turbo his N/A car" i doub he thought that.

and in the end most people should just get the burien kit and call it a day cuz you dont know all the **** you go threw with the swap.

O and i will run anyones turbo 7afe motor anyday and whoop there @ss any day. there are some 5sfe turbos who are damn fast but they put alot of money into thats for sure.

PS im not against anyone trying to turbo there motor or swap and engine. im just pissed that people think people with the swap arnt as good cuz people have done it. also think about this how many 6th gens have a 3SGTE in them and are running? less the 20 in the nation id bet.

me and DUDE have had our disagreements in the past BUT

I agree with him.

if have a burien kit on my 5S-FE and now am swapping in a 3S-GTE

you can get a st185 clip for around 1500. then have mike (qatar11) do the wiring for like 400 or so.

then you can pay a shop (not an import specialty shop or anything like that just a normal mechanics shop) to swap in the motor

the reason that you dont need a import specialty is :

1. They charge more.
2. The secret will get out to all their fellow civic buddies with B16's
3. After the wiring is done its pretty much just like swapping your stock engine (besides little parts)
4. repeat

the burien kit is 2500 buckaroos

then you have to install it.

most people here probably have no idea how to tap into their oil pan for an oil feed line for the turbo. Thats just one step.

And about being unique

I can think of maybe 10 people or less that have a 3S-GTE in their cars and they have it running. Probably 20 people that have the engine and arent done putting it in. That goes for A series engine too. Not just the 3S-GTE or 3S-GE.

I have been running the Turbo kit for about a 6months now at 10lbs with no problem to the engine at all!!

the transmission inthe other hand is now slipping due to the extra power. Next week Im converting from an auto to a standard tranny.

If any of you have already done this please email me with some insight.
The only issue I have is re-wiring the neutral safty switch, the cruise control
and the clutch start.

If any of you need a wiring diagram from th 96 celica email me.

no man, thats not what i meant. check my previous post, i said the a 3sgte will always be better then a 5sfte and thats its a matter of preference

i didnt say i was turboing my 7afe to be unique, that has been done as well as 3sgte swaps. im doing it because it is a lot easier, and faster(as in, i get it all in and working faster). i also did not say it would make my car fast. i also dont care what other people think of my car. i didnt get it to impress other people. i dont do things to it to impress other people.

what i meant was, that one day i would like to have a whole GT4, instead of a gt4 engine in my celica. it would cost about as much as a swap would cost for my auto ST. you can get GT4's for about $4-5k from japan and bring them in as show cars. sure you can only drive 1500 or so miles a year, but its pretty easy to disable a speedo. for around $7k, i could get a RHD GT4 and legally(sort of, anyway) drive it.

to sum up, yes a swap is still unique, same with turboing the stock engine, although some might disagree. people are now starting to put 3sgte's into 7th gens, i have even heard rumors of a honda guy trying to put a 3sgte into his car. there are plenty of celica owners that are not on this site but do have 3sgte's in their 6th gens. 5th gen guys have 3sgte's in thier cars too(excluding alltracs). how many people in the US have a 6th gen GT4?

and i know what the VR4 owner was thinking, he was wondering how the hell he got beat. he probably didnt realize that a vr4 is not really the best car for freeway racing. im sure if you were up against a supra TT or a 300zx TT, the outcome would not have been the same. but its still a good kill.

and GT2GT4, did you mean oil return line, cuz the oil feed line does not tap into the oil pan, and doesnt the burien kit come with a pre tapped oil pan?

Im leaking coolent. I had the head machined down and Im still leaking. I think the HG is bad so I'm doing that again tomorrow.

Has anybody had to move any ac lines or the CC for the turbo install? I have to move both and have never seen any posts of this problem before.

You do not have to move any ac lines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Look at the lines under the exhaust manifold they are metal then they go toward the driver side of the engine and turn into rubber heater looking hose. You can tee into those b4 they go through the firewall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you might not have bee able to notice them before cause you probably were not looking for them!!!!!!
let me know if you need anything else

The ones you are talking about are coolent lines. The ones in the way are just behind the pass. high beam. The 2 lines that bolt to the ac. They start out as metal and then turn to rubber. Thing is the metal part is whats in the way.

yup, exactly what i was saying, from a roll, there is no stopping a 3sgte swapped celica, depending on mods or course

as for the turbo civic hatches, i hear that those damn things can be pretty fast, being that they are lighter than most civics, but i guess it also depends on what engine they were running

Hey Bryan,
I did not realize that you were talking about the lines behind the headlight???
I am not real sure what you can do about that...maybe just check all your connections and clamps for a tight fit. Other than that you might have a bad line or something????
Sorry...not sure if I did much to help you out !

Remember the 3sgte maybe faster than turbo'ing 5sfe but it also takes more time and a lot more work. So for the casual driver who just wants little more power, adding a turbo isn't a bad idea if hes not boosting too much. If your really into speed the 3sgte is the way to go of course.
