Although I haven't been a member of 6GC very long the information I've found has saved me alot of time and aggravation! I figured the least I could do was give something back, because I dont think I'm the only person who has amessed up carpet in their trunk, especially in hatchbacks
I bought 3/4" plywood because i feel that anything less would warp over time and ultimatly cause me to do the work twice. I'm not cutting any corners on this. Some pictures were taken with my digicam and some with my cell phone, depending if i had my digi-cam handy or not. The pictures speak for themselves and I'll be updating this thread as I get more stuff done. Right now It is on hold for a few days because I am waiting for the carpet to show up via snail mail. I have alot of nice ideas and I'm eager to share them with this community. If you have any questions feel free to ask! Here is the trunk as it is now. It pretty much looks like an eye soar but that will be changing in the next few weeks. ![]() The lumber - I took the carpet out and stapled it to the plywood and used a sharpie to trace it ![]() ![]() Carefully cut and and good to go! ![]() Now my car has a nice pine smell w/o an air freshener! Not to mention a flat, smooth floor that will look great once the new carpet goes on it ![]() -------------------- 94 Celica ST - CAI, CarPuter, many interior mods!

I did the same thing you did except with 3/4 mdf, and since hatchbacks have the spare tire in the trunk you'll probably want to make it accesible,
i cut the false floor in half, then i cut the half closest the the license plate in half again, added a handle to the far left (can barely see it), staple some non-factory carpet to the peices and your good to go |

haha yeah, after this post - i cut it today just above where the spare tire sits and i bought a handle @ home depot to install after the carpet goes on

thats a computer - i use it for mp3, internet and navigation. it works pretty good!
im re-carpeting the whole trunk then making custom stuff for my sub and amp, along with the carpc and the related relays and electronics needed to run everything. the most annoying thing is since all of my interior is done with cold cathodes from a computer i needed to regulate the 12v they needed. I learned that the extra voltage fries the power inverters over time also in the dash is a usb hub from the computer, which needed to be powered to function correctly (especially with a usb sound card) so i also make 5v and send that up to the usb hub. it all takes alot of space and i've grown unhappy with my 3 year old layout oh and yes, the seats still fold and when its all said and done they will STILL fold down, and i'll have easy access to the tire -------------------- 94 Celica ST - CAI, CarPuter, many interior mods!

on the carpc, i did a custom mount between the body paneling and the speaker in the back passenger side. EVERYTHING is hidden, HD, board, sound card, inverters.. all of it. i hooked up a relay to the +12v off the power supply and wired that into the inverter power switch, and also to a remote push button. so now when i get in my car, i push the button for a moment, the pc powers up, the relay activates and keeps the inverter on. i also have a remote hibernate button, so when i get out of the car, i just push it, and when the computer shuts down, the inverter cuts its self off. only problem: no more stand by....

I never thought of using all that space by the rear speakers! I bought one of those opus supplies so I have it hard wired to the battery with the ingnition controller handling everything... what you see is an old compaq deskpro. Prior to that I think I had 3 other different setups including a laptop. that old compaq is rock solid - Ive got a push button by the shifter in case it crashes/locks up and an LED for the power light. Dont worry about standby, hibernate works fine (most of the time) QUOTE(jcbass7 @ May 31, 2007 - 3:36 PM) ok so i found some 3/4 in my basement, did you get yours to fit in without cutting it? or do you HAVE to cut it to get it in...? if you mean cutting the one piece into two, yes i cut it after i wedged it in because i didn't wanna be on the side of the road with a flat trying to get that board back in EDIT: I'd say the two pieces weigh 10-12lbs This post has been edited by bman: May 31, 2007 - 2:21 PM -------------------- 94 Celica ST - CAI, CarPuter, many interior mods!
