yea i do for sure... even tho my celi looks a bit stock on the exterior, im always paranoid about somebody taking my stereo goodies... just have to keep a low profile where you live though and upgrade your alarm for sure (which i havnt done). adding a bodykit and a lot of exterior mods will def attract attention to your car though, but you cant worry about it too much

in 6 years of owning my car with all the stuff done its has been broken into 3 times, althought they never got the car, i did get my radio stolen 1 time and 1 time they just took some trivial stuff from inside. they last time i caught them. but yes it can be a pian thats for sure. now i even park my Celica in the driveway and my other car behind it 2 block it in. But i am in so cal so thats part of it too. just noticed we live very close, knowing our area, its a definite threat.

as for the Hondas, well statistically i know they are the most stolen cars (at least around here). and not so much celicas.
I wouldn't say it's nessesary to get an alarm system on your celica..however it is nice knowing there's more security when it comes to something of yours that you've put your time and money into IMO -------------------- |

I worry about it all the time... but I just do all I can to protect it.. visual alarm, doors locked, windows up, don't leave things in plain sight.. I don't plan on putting TV's that can't be hidden.. etc... but if something happens.. oh well.. life goes on.

My car has been broken into 3 times and vandalized once. I caution you, since you have a vert like me, its a lot easier to break in to your car and steal your stuff. Every time they broken into my car, they cut a hole through the cloth top. Once, a guy cut a hole in the top, saw i had nothing to steal (removable faceplate) and just left.
It all comes down to this: you want to mod your car and there will always be that fear that it will get stolen. It is the risk people take for having nice stuff. But should we not have nice things or do the things we want in fear that others may take it from us?? I say no, no one should live in fear of doing the things they want, no matter what that fear is. -------------------- Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it... |

if someone wants your stuff bad enough they are gonna get it, just do what you can to avoid theft/vandalism. dont blare you music showing off your nice system around where you live (also helps to not piss off the neighbors )and when you arrive somewhere like the movie theaters dont be a show off. as far as alarms, noone really pays any attention to them anymore, someone should make an alarm that when goes off it screams "dude look shes givin free bj's" thatd for sure at least catch the attention of any men in the area haha.

That should be a nice idea for an alarm ... and i am not planing to put in a nice system , i am not really planing on anything but new speakers because mine are going out ... but a hole in the soft top thing is kind of relevent ... maybe i shouldnt tint my windows so that thieves know that there is nothing in there to steal !

well, with an alarm, there would be a blinking light that is visible usually on the drivers side, which i would think would scare the theif away...

Hmm, I am not worrying about it. It is not a popular car and not very expensive. Why it should be interested by thief? -------------------- |

So for that, save your money and just wire up a blinking LED on your dash, just make sure you can turn it off when your driving. You could do all this for about $5 if you know how to wire up a 555 timing circuit. (not that hard) |

How many times have you walked through a parking lot wondering when someone was going to turn their alarm off? I spent probably about $700 after install on my 2 way viper alarm, and you know what? Its not worth it. If you have something someone wants, and they want it bad enough, its gone. An alarm is not an excuse to think your car is safe. I *know* someone who almost cut the front end of a trans am off for the engine/tranny....thankfully whoever owned it moved it hours before he got there.

u know u gotta think outside the box with alarms, if your in a city and a car alarm goes off absolutely no one runs toward the car screaming theft! theft! theft!!. 99.9% of the time everyone thats close to the alarm will just lower their heads and walk away as fast as they can.
Ill put into the words of dave chapelle: If you want an alarm system to be completely effective just make a custom one screaming "free crack, free crack, getcha free crack here!!" Then i guarantee people will run towards that car and scare the theif away. lmao (as far as advice goes, just run a switch off the ignition wire [under the hood of course] and hide the switch it in your wheel well, or in the car somewhere, that way no one will be able to start your car without finding the switch) |

do you guys remember that 'assault by car security system' case several years back?
from what i remeber some guy rigged his car that if the car was started not using proper means, ( key in ignition) that a surge of electricity was shot into the drivers seat, and electrocuted the thief. well apparently the owner caught the would be thief while he was dazed. cool ending right? NO!! the thief took the guy to court on something like assault on unsuspecting victim for physical and psychalogical damage... and won. i lost faith in the judicial system after that day. |
